Back to the hey day of 70s martial arts films where people use any weapons in a fight and able to leap tall building and walk up walls, here we have a blind master set out for revenge after two students were killed by a one armed fighter and uses his fighting skills and throwing skills of a hat that is a guillotine to exact his purpose of revenge. Yeah ok it is badly dubbed and Japanese dialogue does come up with subtitles that are way short and makes no sense but you can't help but admire the visual effects used in the film, even though it's daft now.

I'm surprised that 88 Films or Eureka haven't released this yet.

The Monkey

2 Brothers come across a Toy Monkey in which kills people associated with the person who turns the key. The deaths are good and gory but the plot that holds it together isn't really all that good. Watch if you come across it but it's not one you should go out of your way for.

The Trailer made it look so much better

The Hurricane

Film based on the True Story of Reben "Hurricane" Carter, a Boxer wrongly convicted of Murder and the battle to free him. Good Film with a good performances from Denzel Washington. Also starring Liev Schriber, John Hannah and Deborah Kara Unger as people who look after a teen who reads his book and Dan Hedaya as the crooked cop who has a grudge against Carter.

On a side note, 88 Films just announced they are releasing Murder Rock. did someone review that one recently, I've heard it mentioned somewhere.

Two Left Feet (1963)

Roy Ward Baker's drama about adolescent sexual complications starring Michael Crawford as a gangly, unworldly lad who goes out on a date to a jazz club with an older waitress (Nyree Dawn Porter). At the club Porter more or less ignores him and flirts with two other young men - David Hemmings and Michael Craze - Crawford in turn meets a mousy, charming young girl (Julia Foster) with whom he appears far happier. However things don't go according to plan as Porter attempts to juggle affairs with Crawford and Craze, a cocky lad who seems a little too friendly with Hemmings as well as his flick knife, in the eyes of Crawford.

This stark look at sexual mores is superbly acted by all mentioned, especially Crawford and Porter, who i'm sure could pull any fella in the place with those 'come to bed' eyes. Two Left Feet has a lot of charm and i loved it all over again. It would make a superb double bill with the similarly themed jazz club centric Beat Girl (1960)

Highly recommended if you like 60's culture films.

The dvd from Network looks lovely.

Bury Me An Angel 1971.

A young biker chick goes on a revenge spree after her brother is killed.

Ok something different on the revenge genre I didn't expect, our heroine isn't exactly alone, she meets with a witch who tells her her plan won't really take her pain away. A meeting with a teacher that results in a wham bam thank you mam that the encounter forces her to run from her emotions. This is one that the trailer made it look exciting and worth watching but felt it completely drag in areas and went off the rails once or twice, it was good but not mind blowing.

Target (1985)

The late, great Gene Hackman stars in this Cold War thriller alongside Matt Dillon as father and son who head off from Texas to Paris when they find out mum (Gayle Hunnicutt) has been kidnapped.

Arthur Penn's film gave me echoes of the similarly themed Frantic (1988) which i'd seen again recently but after forty minutes or so it became clear they were two separate beasts altogether as Hackman isn't the fish out of water Harrison Ford was in Roman Polanski's thriller but a former CIA operative whose past comes back to haunt him.

I'd never seen this before and watched my Premium Collection Blu-ray to honour Hackman who was along with his wife and one of their dogs reported dead today in suspicious circumstances. Hackman is of course excellent here, as he always is, but the film itself goes a little stodgy lacking excitement around the hour mark as it didn't really feel like there was enough plot for a two hour movie. Once it becomes clear exactly what is happening that second hour is kind of done and dusted in two pivotal sequences in the final twenty minutes. Two sequences albeit that are fraught with both suspense and intrigue.

I feel the film works best as father and son reconnect with each other as they unravel the plot and search for Hunnicutt as the movie leaves Paris and moves into Germany. Hackman works well with Dillon who becomes less of a brat and more of a son the longer the movie runs.

This was the third and final collaboration between Penn and Hackman (Teller was obviously busy) after the superior Bonnie and Clyde and Night Moves which although i also own on a Premium Collection Blu-ray i have yet to see.

I've not seen Target. I've just ordered a copy of Narrow Margin with Hackman and Anne Archer from Amazon to watch over the weekend. I haven't seen it in yonks but I remember really enjoying it. I wish I'd picked up The Package from 88films before it went OOP.

I have The Package from 88, but it's only on dvd. Good film. Narrow Margin is excellent. I have that as a newspaper freebie. I was going to check it out last night to see the quality of it but Target was two hours and filled my time fine.

Edit - Ah i see your new one of Narrow Margin is the dvd. Probably the same as mine then.

Yes I think it's possibly an older edition but it was available for next day delivery. Something that used to be standard for Prime. Not anymore.

Not always. There's a newer edition of Narrow Margin available, it's free delivery fro Prime members but it will take about three weeks to come.
