I Am Legend (2007)

An enjoyable big budget take on Richard Matheson's classic novel of the same name. Even though it's previously been filmed twice prior (Vincent Price starred in The Last Man on Earth and Charlton Heston was The Omega Man) there's still a sense of wonder created by seeing an overgrown and derelict Times Square totally devoid of life other than deer and lions.

My main take from this version is that Will Smith and his faithful dog were doing just fine.

Then his dog is sadly killed and Smith meets up with a woman and her child and everything gets f*cked up.

The moral of the story is that you are better off on your own without others ruining it all.

Oh and come the apocalypse, should you survive, you'll be reliant on physical media.

THE YOUNG LIONS (1958)

WWII story told through the eyes of three people. This is really a character study of the lives and loves of the three soldiers with the battle sequences playing a part but not the main thrust of the movie.
Each of the three have problems to solve in their lives and in their heads as the two Americans go off to boot camp and the German officer deals with what Nazism really is.
Good, interesting and thoughtful movie clocking in at 2hrs 40mins but keeps hold of you through all that time.

PIRAHNA (1978)

Inspired by JAWS, Roger Corman and New World Pictures put out this entertaining movie which injects some humour amongst all of the teeth gnashing and blood pumping.
Some pretty gruesome attacks going on here, especially when there are kids involved in some of the scenes of the mayhem. Great shot of Belinda Balaski getting pulled down in to the darkness.
Good score by Pino Donaggio which reminds me of his music for CARRIE.

Backcountry (2014)

A couple, Alex and Jenn (Jeff Roop and Missy Peregrym) take a hiking trail to a picturesque lake in the forests of Ontario. This being a horror film they naturally end up lost and fall prey to a savage Black Bear.

Released on UK dvd as Blackfoot Trail, this is a very well shot and produced Canadian survival horror. The bear attacks are scary and intense and wonderfully shot with plentiful realism in their blood shedding, in fact as good as any i've ever seen with the build up to it taking place during the movies first hour.

Obviously when a film such as this is pretty much a two hander the actors need to be competent and thankfully Peregrym and Roop are natural and believable and work well together in fact you'd believe they were a couple, their chatter being so well, normal.

There's an edgy interlude one night as Alex returns from collecting fire wood to find Jenn cosily chatting to a stranger (Eric Balfour) which incites Alex bringing no shortage of nervousness to what is a lengthy scene based on Alex's stereotypical views on anyone he doesn't know out in the woods at night, basically the same as most of us i'd expect that this person was a danger and a threat. It goes without saying that this sequence is pivotal and provides a wry twist (it doesn't go where you'd expect) to the final scene.

Although i've seen this dvd before it was a long time ago and i remembered nothing about it so it was like discovering a new and hugely enjoyable backwoods survival horror for me.

This was an impressive debut from director Adam MacDonald. Recommended.

I'm assuming its for Sexual Violence. TBH even though I did enjoy this, I'm happy with the cheap CEX DVD I got

It's deliberately paced and takes time to get going, but the last hour is highly adrenalised, brutal stuff. Does it add anything? Cover new ground? I'm not convinced, though it's certainly slicker and probably nastier. Only slight disappointment was, even though it's been ages since I last saw it, it all came back to me very clearly when I put it on the other day. Y'know, my memory's shite, I like to feel I'm 'rediscovering' stuff if it's been a while. Anyway. Very good.
TBH, my memory doesn't seem to be great anymore when it comes to movies I've seen let alone Movies I own

Mickey 17

Set in the future, Robert Pattinsom signs up to be an Expendable (Not the Action Film Series) but someone who dies and recreated. When there's an accident and there is another one of him, they both try to survive especially from Mark Ruffalo (Who seems to be channeling someone but not sure who lol) and his ardent supporters, especially his Wife (Played by Toni Collette)

This is one of those Films that is if you like the look of the Trailer, then it's worth a watch but if you didn't like the Trailer, then it's not one to go out of your way. Ruffalo and Collette are really good.

Crackerjack

Thomas Ian Griffith (Terry Silver in Cobra Kai) plays a good guy Detective who's family is killed. When he becomes a loose cannon, his Brother and Sister In Law take him to a Mountain Resort, where Terrorists led by Christopher Plummer take it over in order to steal some very valuable Diamonds. Nastassja Kinski (Who looked like Natasha Henstridge) co-stars.

Even though it's not a PM Entertainment Film, it has the look and feel of one and these are the types of Films, I enjoy. Got it cheap and it was entertaining, Plummer plays the role as you would expect but Griffith is more suited to playing a bad guy.

Kill Em All

Similar to the Films Mean Guns and The Tournament and done in the style of Shoot Em Up. This is the story of 8 Assassins who are locked up after being kidnapped and forced to start killing to survive. Johnny Messner, Gordon Liu and Joe Lewis star in an decent effort but don't pay too much for it.

Mean Machine

A more grittier British version of The Longest Yard and the game they play is actual Football. Vinnie Jones, Jason Statham and Ralph Brown star in again a decent, entertaining effort that follows the basic storyline but told in a less comedic way.

Today You Die (2005)

A better than average direct to dvd Steven Seagal vehicle in which he is imprisoned whilst caught after being framed in an armed heist in Las Vegas. Making connections in prison he escapes along with "Ice Kool" (Treach), determined to hunt down those who set him up.

One of those films where Seagal actually bothers to turn up for all his scenes and take part in some decent fights. The armoured car / police chase along the strip in Las Vegas is actually really impressive. Up there with films like Diamonds Are Forever in stunt work.

Look out for Chloe Grace Moretz as' Little Girl'.

THE THING FROM ANOTHER WORLD (1951)

Classic sci-fi. Such a great movie. The 'Thing' appearing at the door to the green house is still a great shock scene and attempts to set it on fire look great as they turn him in to a fireball. The score is suitably chilling throughout and adds to the atmosphere. "Watch the skies, everywhere! Keep looking. Keep watching the skies" !

Mosquito_Squadron.jpg
MOSQUITO SQUADRON (1969)

A squadron of Mosquito fighter bombers are tasked with destroying an underground German rocket facility next to a huge Chateau in France.
There is a problem. Allied airmen are being held prisoner in the Chateau.
Can they come up with a plan to bomb the facility and rescue the airman before another wave of Mosquito's arrive to destroy the Chateau as well?..

Really entertaining WWII movie. Some of the aircraft scenes are lifted from 633 SQUADRON and some scenes from OPERATION CROSSBOW but fit seamlessly in to the movie and unless you are really familiar with those movies, you would not notice. Good action sequences and a chance to see the awesome Mosquito aircraft make this one to watch.
