A list of top ten Xmas films popped up on FB earlier. It was amongst them, sounds intriguing. Rare Exports was also featured, any good?

Yes, I'll stick my proverbial thumb in the air for Rare Exports too.

As for Calvaire, whilst I quite liked it it isn't a patch on some of the other New Wave French-Extreme from the same era (even though it's Belgian but I'm lumping them together here as the language is French and they are definitely cut from the same cloth).

It's much better than the cinematic abortion that is Frontiers though.

I also really enjoyed Rare Exports.

As for the 'new French extremity' films, Inside is one of the best along with Martyrs and Them (Ils). It's been quite a few years since I saw Calvaire, so that's another for the list of films which needs re-watching.

Despite being a massive rip-off of The Texas Chainsaw Massacre, I liked Frontieres. Considering how well Marine Le Pen was doing up until today in French politics, there is some relevance in Frontieres themes. However, that's all I will say on the subject as I may already be breaking the "No Politics" rule.

Martyrs and Haute Tension are probably my favourites. I really like Ils, but Inside was a little disappointing for me. The first half was great but then it just gets stupid. I read a review somewhere which summed it up nicely and went something like: Everything is going fine until the clown car drops off 18 new characters for no reason and it becomes a comedy.
