Oddly enough, of all the French Extremism, it's Inside that's my favourite. Probably because, a couple of years back, my dad got into a nasty argument with another farmer.

Anyways, my family went on holidays but I didn't go as I had college work to finish up on. Over that week, the dogs would start howling which means I would go out and investigate (turn on the lights and either carry my katana or my dad's shotgun). I would see nothing but I would notice a few peculiarities, such as gate handles sitting in a way I didn't remember (I would later learn that the locks were seized with glue). The cattle would then start bellowing despite nothing seeming out of place.

Then on the third night, I just so happened to go out to see some stars as it was a clear night. When I opened the door, I saw two hooded figures. I immediately locked the door and called the Gardai (police). The Gardai showed up, and I told them what happened and who my dad was up against. The Gardai paid a visit to the individual in question, but as there was no proof, nothing could be done.

The night visits ended but my dad then got threatening letters. Again, we contacted the Gardai and the letters stopped. It was a rather creepy period that makes Inside all that more unsettling for me.

Not really, because that is a zombie action film.

Have a read of the page on Wikipedia for a good overview of New French Extremity:

Wow, your Dad must hate "It's a Wonderful life" even more than you to get that kind of reaction.

Here's the thing: nobody in my family (including the extended) or my friends, or acquaintances (except one) like It's a Wonderful Life. I genuinely thought that It's a Wonderful Life was one of those films critics salivate over but that doesn't impress the general public.

Oh, well - you learn (or are forced to learn) something everyday.

As for Calvaire, whilst I quite liked it it isn't a patch on some of the other New Wave French-Extreme from the same era (even though it's Belgian but I'm lumping them together here as the language is French and they are definitely cut from the same cloth).

It's much better than the cinematic abortion that is Frontiers though.
I 's been reading the conversation about Calvaire and knew i knew the movie somehwhere, i have the uk release called 'The Ordeal' - I got the tartan dvd years ago and really love the movie, it's definatly worth buying! I adore Rare Exports too.

Thank you Dem and Stephen for getting me info on the UK Release of 'Ghost Story' I will put an order in for that movie, it looks quite good.

Don't suppose anyone knows what the difference if any is between these two sets?

Thanks.

I've had a look around the Internet and I think it's just new packaging (https://uk.movies.yahoo.com/post/125...dition-blu-ray)

If you are interested in the content, this will be of help:

Rewind @ www.dvdcompare.net - Star Wars: Episode I - The Phantom Menace (Blu-ray) (1999)
