I saw the trailers for these three films at the cinema today, and all of them will be ones I'll try and watch at the cinema.

GOLD

LION

HACKSAW RIDGE

Looking forward to Hacksaw Ridge. Been following it's progress on Box Office Mojo. Seems to be doing quite well. And it's from the director of Braveheart...whoever that might be.

It probably won't skimp on blood and gore!

On a serious note, the protagonist, Desmond Doss, was a remarkable individual and his actions during the Battle of Okinawa were astonishing.

Me too.

My mum's actually going to see it at the cinema tomorrow with a friend, so I'll have to see what she thinks. I've heard rumblings that it's actually rather depressing and not the romantic drama that some of the trailers have apparently been pitching it as. I've warned her accordingly, although without seeing it for myself I have no idea what it will be like (I've avoided trailers and related promo paraphernalia for it thus far).

The reviews i've read have claimed it to be the 'Feelgood hit of the summer' er, winter, and a joyous hark back to films like Singin' in the Rain.

That's atypical journalism yap-blurb though.

There are some reviews and conversation threads about it on Letterboxd that paint a slightly different picture. From what little I've read anyway, it will come down to personal interpretations for the most part and I'd assume most people will probably eat it up as the 'feelgood hit of the summer' er, winter.

Like you i've only read snippets to get a brief impression so as to avoid spoilers.
