Although the Eli Roth version of 'Death Wish' was passed '18' uncut, the distributors (Vertigo Releasing Ltd) have chosen to make cuts totaling 14 seconds to a torture scene in order to obtain a '15' classification

Tend to find on quite a few films nowadays they cut the film for cinema release , release the film then not long after they release it again uncut with comments on the front cover eg scenes not shown in the cinema or scenes to extreme for cinema or something along those lines .

Although this is to do with torture rather than suicide, it's the same scenario as John Wick 2 – distributors want more people watching at the cinemas and I assume cinemas are less likely to show 18 certificate films than ones with a lower certification.

Like Gag says, this has been going on for years, number of films I watched in the cinema in the mid 2000’s that came out on DVD later in “extended unseen” versions, the Hostel films being one such example

I have to admit the imagination for some of the films today is fantastic and thought provoking I just wish the quality of the movies backed up the ideas as most are just a let down.

It’s based on a really good sci-fi book by Jeff Vandermeer which takes a fair pinch of Lovecraft influence in some parts. I didn’t really like the trailer but the film is getting fantastic reviews stateside so I’m willing to give it a chance as loved the book so much.

There’s a bit too much of that going on these days.
