Remakes, reboots, spin off / sequel, Micheal bay style shite, etc etc so it’s a nice change to see something that doesn’t fit into any of them categories.

There are a lot of films released that don't fit into those categories you just don't get them shoved down your throat.

What you should have said was "something that received hype that didn't fit into those categories."

Female Lead Cast in HELLRAISER Reboot with Gender Swapped Pinhead
We've gotten word that Odessa A’Zion has been cast as the female lead in David Bruckner's HELLRAISER reboot for Spyglass!

We’re getting word that Odessa A’Zion (Let’s Scare Julie) has been cast as the female lead, “Riley”, in the upcoming Hellraiser reboot in the works at Spyglass Media (not to be confused with the Hellraiser series in the works at HBO). This news comes via Illuminerdi, the same site the first reported Elija Wood had been cast in Macon Blair’s upcoming Toxic Avenger reboot.

Illuminerdi also claims that the upcoming reboot will feature a female Pinhead:

Previously we revealed that the developers were looking for a female lead to play a gender-swapped Pinhead in a reinvention of the classic antagonist.

David Bruckner (The Ritual) is directing Spyglass’s Hellraiser reboot from a screenplay penned by Ben Collins and Luke Piotrowski.

Meanwhile, there is also a Hellraiser TV series in the works. That series has Halloween director David Gordon Green set to helm the pilot. Mark Verheiden (Battlestar Gallactica, Daredevil, Heroes) and Michael Dougherty (Godzilla: King of the Monsters, Trick R Treat) will pen the scripts.

It’s been a bit since we’ve gotten any sort of update on the future of the Wolf Creek franchise, which to date includes two films and two seasons of a television series. Greg McLean has been teasing his desire to make a third movie for a while now, and today we’ve learned that it’s finally happening. Altitude Film Sales has taken worldwide sales rights, Variety reports!

Altitude will be introducing the project to buyers at the Virtual Cannes Market this week. Variety notes that the worldwide sales rights don’t include Australia/New Zealand.

In the third film, “An American family takes a dream trip to the Australian outback and soon draws the attention of notorious serial killer Mick Taylor. A hellish nightmare ensues as the couple’s two children escape only to be hunted by Australia’s most infamous killer.”

John Jarratt will return as outback serial killer Mick Taylor. Greg McLean is on board to produce the third installment, though Rachele Wiggins will sit in the director’s chair this time.

Variety notes, “Production will commence late 2021 in South Australia.”

Duncan Samarasinghe wrote the script. McLean said in a statement, “Duncan’s compelling, suspense-filled script combined with Rachele’s exciting directorial vision for the film will deliver a horror roller-coaster ride sure to delight genre fans around the world.”

Dead for a Dollar’: Walter Hill is Back With New Western-Thriller Starring Willem Dafoe and Christoph Waltz


Walter Hill (The Warriors, “Tales from the Crypt”) is set to make his return to the director’s chair for the first time since The Assignment in 2016, with Deadline reporting that Hill’s next is a western-thriller titled Dead for a Dollar. And the cast is already stacked, as both Willem Dafoe (The Lighthouse) and Christoph Waltz (Django Unchained) are signed on to star!

Deadline details, “Hill will write and direct the feature which is set in New Mexico Territory, Chihuahua, in 1897. The story will follow Max Borlund (Waltz), a famed bounty hunter, hired to find and return Rachel Price, the politically progressive wife of Nathan Price, a successful Santa Fe businessman. Max is told she has been kidnapped by an African American army deserter, Elijah Jones, and is being held for ransom in Mexico. When Max goes south of the border he soon runs across his sworn enemy, expatriate American Joe Cribbens (Dafoe), a professional gambler, sometime outlaw, who Max had tracked down and sent to prison years before.”

“When Borlund finds Rachel and Elijah hiding deep in the wilds of the Mexican desert, he discovers that Rachel has willingly fled from an abusive husband, and the runaway soldier is, in fact, her romantic partner. Max is now faced with a dilemma: does he return the wife back across the border to the man who hired him, or does he aid Rachel’s bid for freedom and fight off ruthless hired guns and his longtime criminal rival.”

Walter Hill wrote the script, with Matt Harris also working on it.

The film franchise comes to an end (allegedly, at least) with director Everardo Gout‘s fifth installment The Forever Purge, which will be released in theaters on July 2, 2021.

Adela (Ana de la Reguera, Cowboys & Aliens) and her husband Juan (Tenoch Huerta, Days of Grace) live in Texas, where Juan is working as a ranch hand for the wealthy Tucker family. Juan impresses the Tucker patriarch, Caleb (Will Patton, Halloween), but that fuels the jealous anger of Caleb’s son, Dylan (Josh Lucas, Ford v Ferrari).

On the morning after The Purge, a masked gang of killers attacks the Tucker family—including Dylan’s wife (Cassidy Freeman, HBO’s The Righteous Gemstones), and his sister (Leven Rambin, The Hunger Games), forcing both families to band together and fight back as the country spirals into chaos and the United States begins to disintegrate around them.

From a screenplay by franchise creator James DeMonaco, The Forever Purge is directed by Everardo Gout, writer-director of the award-winning thriller Days of Grace.

The film is produced by the franchise’s founding producers: Jason Blum for Blumhouse Productions; Platinum Dunes partners Michael Bay, Andrew Form and Brad Fuller; and Man in a Tree duo James DeMonaco and longtime producing partner Sébastien K. Lemercier. The film’s executive producers are Marcei A. Brown, Everardo Gout and Jeanette Volturno.

Jackson White Will Be Playing a Young Jud Crandall in Upcoming ‘Pet Sematary’ Movie

It was announced earlier this year that a new installment in the Pet Sematary franchise is in the works for Paramount+, with Jeff Buhler, who wrote the 2019 adaptation, writing. The project was initially announced as being a prequel, an approach that was later called into question. But this first bit of casting news, well, it sure seems to suggest it’s indeed a prequel.

Deadline reports that Jackson White (“Mrs. Fletcher”) is in final negotiations to join the cast of the mysterious movie, playing a young version of the character Jud Crandall.

Jud was of course originally played by the late Fred Gwynne in Mary Lambert’s Pet Sematary, with the role being played by John Lithgow in the 2019 version of Pet Sematary. In both versions of Stephen King‘s terror tale, Jud Crandall is the kind neighbor of the family at the center of the story, and the one who introduces them to the titular location and its powers.

Lindsey Beer (Sierra Burgess Is a Loser) has been hired to direct the new movie, making her directorial debut. Beer also wrote the latest draft of the movie’s script.

No word yet on plot details, but the film will presumably tell a new story set within the world of Stephen King‘s Pet Sematary. The novel has thus far been adapted twice for the big screen, first by Mary Lambert in 1989 and then by Kevin Kölsch and Dennis Widmyer in 2019. Mary Lambert also directed a sequel to her Pet Sematary, which was released in 1992.

The 2019 movie made an impressive $113 million at the box office on a reported $21 million production budget, so it’s a no brainer that Paramount is headed back to the Pet Sematary.
