Default Boneyard (2024)

I'm unsure about Boneyard because it could be a suspenseful and unnerving Zodiac-like thriller or, because it's only having a limited theatrical run before going to streaming, could be an unconvincing DTV film.

Mel Gibson is sometimes a formidable screen presence, but sometimes looks like he's only thinking of the pay, I've never been convinced by Curtis Jackson's acting ability, and I haven't seen anything Asif Akbar has previously directed.

I saw D'Artagnan a while ago because my brother rented it and there was a 24-hour period in which I could watch it as well. I thought it was very good, a beautifully designed and interesting film, where all of the parts are well cast, and it just 'felt' right.

I have been wanting to watch Milady since it was released, but I haven't had the opportunity to see it yet.

I'm tempted to buy the box set available with both parts of The Three Musketeers, currently retailing at GBP24.99 at HMV and Amazon, which seems good value for two feature films.

I was thinking of The Three Musketeers when I saw that trailer and thought that if The Count of Monte Cristo is like the other recent period drama, then it will be definitely worth watching.

Deadline had the exclusive:

Quote:
Following the success of her most recent Sony pic Anyone But You, the studio isn't wasting any time staying in the Sydney Sweeney business as sources tell Deadline Jane Goldman and Honey Ross are in negotiations to pen a new Barbarella pic starring Sweeney with Edgar Wright in talks to direct. The film is still in development given Sweeney's busy schedule and Wright deep in prep on his The Running Man reboot with Glen Powell starring, so the project will not be next up for either of them.

Even so, Goldman and Ross being brought on to pen clearly shows the studio is not messing around in getting the film right as they see this as big franchise for all parties. Goldman has helped launch such successful franchises like the rebooted X-Men movies starring James McAvoy and Michael Fassbender as well as Matthew Vaughn's The Kingsmen: Secret Service.

Wright has been eyeing the project for some time, taking a meeting with Sweeney right after it was first announced but only committed to develop the project as something he would potentially direct. The studio and Wright have strong ties going back to his box-office hit Baby Driver, and the tone Sony and Sweeney are going for with this project fall in line with the fun and creative visual style the director is known for.

Peter Bradshaw doesn't think much of Megalopolis, giving it a two star review in the Guardian
Quote:
For me this is a passion project without passion: a bloated, boring and bafflingly shallow film, full of high-school-valedictorian verities about humanity?s future. It?s simultaneously hyperactive and lifeless, lumbered with some terrible acting and uninteresting, inexpensive-looking VFX work which achieves neither the texture of analogue reality nor a fully radical, digital reinvention of existence. Yet this sci-fi conspiracy drama-thriller, avowedly inspired by the Catiline plotters of ancient Rome, does ask a valid question. The US empire, like the Roman empire, like any empire, can?t last for ever. Has America?s decline-and-fall moment arrived?

I think it looks ambitious and visually arresting, so hope it will be shown in the town cinema.
