I'll go with the original Japanese language version of Baby Cart at the River Styx. God knows how many times I've seen it, but it captivates each and every time.

I'd strongly disagree on Carrie (it's very 'lacking' compared to the book), but each to their own etc.!
never read the book but you have to agree De Palma's film with his trademarks e.g. split screen/ending etc put Stephen King on the map!
lost count of how many adaptations there have been

I loved the ending. I don't understand how anyone could not! I don't know why anyone would feel "cheated" by it.

Not that it's perfect but i think Carrie is an amazing film even if it doesn't stay true too the book all the way through. I don't think it has too do that either.
There are many examples of this like One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest

Vertigo

Dumb and Dumber (I'm not joking, I think it's the perfect comedy film)

Oh don't get me wrong, I don't mind films that stray from the source material, I just felt Carrie was lacking some of the atmosphere and in particular post-prom carnage that the book dealt with so well. I do like De Palma's custom ending though.

As for One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest, I've never read the book but absolutely love the film.

Perfect comedy films? Now there's a thought...

The Big Lebowski and The Life of Brian would be my (near) perfect choices.

Both Bad Boy Bubby and Dr Strangelove would beat them both, although I don't consider either purely comedy as such.
