Too Scared to Scream (1985) ****ing abysmal. For starters lots of people scream so we've already gotten off on the wrong foot as I feel that I've been intentionally lied to. There is an awful musical piece over the opening montage which paves the way for what is essentially a drawn out police procedural punctuated by the odd kill, themselves almost feeling like a secondary element. There was a weird aesthetic at play at times, which toyed with me... frustratingly it never bore fruit an I was left drowning in an ocean of low body-count ennui and off-the-cuff herpes jokes. The bulk of my rating is for Ian McShane putting on make-up like a boss. 24/100 |

I was distinctly underwhelmed by the first one, but enjoyed the second much more because the scenario had greater tension, the character development was more believable and involving, and it was generally much more satisfying. I haven't seen Election Year, but hope the mix of action and horror is like Anarchy – a little like being outside in the siege film – and not quite like the first one which was a siege movie with little sense of danger.

I think there is a brief introduction with the idea of what happens during The Purge, and the reason for it, which basically makes The Purge: Anarchy a stand-alone film. It would probably help to see what it's like for a homeowner, but I don't think there are any characters repeated and it can probably be seen and enjoyed in its own right.

I may skip the first film and go straight to the second then. I'm not really that into modern home invasion films. The victims always seem to make the stupidest moves or not at all when they have the chance. I'm always frustrated by them come the end. Them (Ils) was probably the only one i really liked. After a late dinner I'll begin my ABUK-A-THON, and there's only one place to start...

I was planning on starting my Horror Movie Marathon with Texas Chain Saw Massacre, seeing as I saw post on twitter earlier telling me it was released in Dallas, Texas on this day in 1984. But...after finishing work at 10pm I got a call to go collect the Mrs from a party, I then had to socialise for an hour while she finished up her drinks and chats, and then I spent half an hour trying to get her out the car and into the house, then half an hour washing sick off my driveway and off the inside of my passenger door! Lol. It's funny really. She's getting me back for all the times she's had to help me off the floor and into the bed. Maybe tomorrow I'll just watch two. Will that still count??
