Demented Death Farm Massacre (1971, Fred Olen Ray/ Donn Davison)

When a buncha dissolutes are forced to impose on some simpler folks, guess what occurs?? Lotsa regional fun here. Wildly atonal ST? Check! Hideously mangled dialogue? Check! The good sorts at Troma brought you this ... So it's blessed already. Amen y'all & pass that jug!!

Grizzly 1976.

An 18ft tall grizzly bear attacks a state park and a park ranger efforts are hammered by other hunters to stop it.

This has always been a good monster on the loose in the woods film, it is what you would expect it to be a certain B movie but does hold up with its action, suspense and well crafted actors from Christopher George (City Of The Living Dead) Andrew Prine (Eliminators) and Richard Jaeckel (Starman) as the park rangers. It's brilliantly directed by William Girdler (The Manitou) and has great cinematography. Worth a watch it's Jaws With Claws.

30 Days Of Unseen Horror

Day 25

A model looking for an apartment in New York cant believe her luck when she finds a really cheap place with an amazing view slap bang in the middle of the city. She is soon introduced to her neighbours a more intrusive welcome than she would of expected or liked. Introductions out of the way Alison hopes to get settled in but a lot of strange things start happening she can't sleep hearing lots of noise in the apartment above but when she complains to the real estate agent she is told no one lives in the apartment over her. Alison then starts having some physical problems headaches and collapsing for no reason along with constant flashbacks of her troubled past.

This is a hard one to review to get to the point i loved it but to really do a proper review i feel i need to watch it a few times there is alot going on that needs processing im sure im missing tons of imagery and things happening in the background. There is a real creepy atmosphere especially when its a film about the horrors of the mind as the mind is the most dangerous place to be. The Sentinel is packed with eccentric characters that make this a real surreal affair from a cats birthday party to some overly frisky lesbian ballerinas. This is definitely one i'll revisit many time and like i said im sure ill get more out of it. One more thing to mention is the use of real disfigured people not something that would be acceptable these days i'm sure even back in the 70s it was a controversial decision but it really worked well for me.

Sorry this review is a bit shit hopefully i can flesh it out abit more after another few viewings.

8/10

30 Days Of Unseen Horror

Day 26

A rich snot nosed stuck up bitch heads to a cabin on an island with her friends for a 4th of July party that was just bought by her daddy. After insulting the few locals they meet including the one responsible for taking them to the island on his boat which is a great idea considering he is their only contact to the outside world and yes you guessed it they have no phone signal out there. Running alongside this story we have a cop investigating a massacre in an apartment and a look inside a lab that has some people locked in some cells thats are being monitored by mysterious old man. Back on the island one of the friends is hiding a personal secret that will soon be exposed with devastating results.

The acting is a mixed bag like the film overall its odd on the island it looks like a film with a decent budget but when we are with the cop and in the lab it looks like a film made for TV its strange to see that inconsistency. The gore and practical effect do look fantastic. I always say this when i come across a film with an annoying cast its a bitter sweet thing first it can make you want to turn off a film and it makes it hard to root for or invest in the characters but it always makes it great when you know they will be killed cause you want to kill them yourself.

This film had a good idea until we get to the overly preachy ending and the plot twist was total BS almost ruining any good that was done before. A decent effort not horrible not amazing one or two of the cast make it almost unbearable to watch but most films like this are like that now anyway.

Felt like the right time for this, I know it's not a movie but it's going to become a yearly occurrence for me.
Ghostwatch
A documentary crew head to a house that has been having multiple strange occurrences to broadcast spooky goings on for the first time. Shit goes down.
Parkinson is cynical which is a great laugh. The subtlety of Pipes is still haunting. While clearly dated it still leaves (for me) a strong impression and stands as a strong horror.

The Craft (1996)

Smoothly transitioning from teen drama to supernatural horror and back again. Sure it has a few cringey moments (see above) but I could watch this all day long! Basically I'm a witch now

Hail to the guardians of the watchtowers of the South, the powers of fire and feeling. Hear us.
