30 Day of Unseen Horror

Day 12

MV5BYmVhMzU2YzEtMGM0ZS00YzQ2LWI0MTktMzI4OGU0NmQwZDM5XkEyXkFqcGdeQXVyMTQ2MjQyNDc@._V1_FMjpg_UX100.jpg

A severely disfigured man living with his mother roams around the French countryside killing anyone who crosses his path.

Ok so within the first 2 minutes the disfigured man sporting a Nazi SS uniform of all things is having a ball slaughtering four or five people shooting stabbing and punching with a spiked leather glove but after an exciting and very bloody start things take a turn for the worst and the bizarre. There is a tale in the town about a clipper ship getting shipwrecked and the surviving crew getting mysteriously pushed back into the sea and the disfigured man is supposed to be a descendant of the crew but that part of the tale is debatable so no one really knows the truth. In the mean time a mummy emerges to kill the original killer yeah I know I was thinking the same thing myself. Then a black stallion shows up and we get more footage of him running around in fields on the streets by day by night by candle light

A very promising start quickly descends into madness and annoyance one to avoid for sure.

Let's Scare Jessica To Death (1971, John D. Hancock)

Some friends retire to the countryside to strip a family asset. They find the property occupied ahem. This being the seventees maaaan, they all hang out and t'ing.
One of them seems to have some ... problems. They annoy the locals, leaving them slightly isolated.
Prime regional US horror then. The burbling, squeaking ST, the grain is apparent in the outdoor scenes etc etc.
You even get a song. Awww.
All presented in that slightly off kilter way that makes you hope and pray that they don't pull the "only a dream" bit at the end
Ahem.

The Boogey Man. 1980.

I'm sure we have all seen this film more than once, one daft question why is Willy scared of mirrors when his sister witnessed him going full Michael Myers on their mother's abusive boyfriend, even the director paid homage to the start of the film.

This has always been a enjoyable film with it's pacing, some tight tense moments, decent kills, probably back then it may have had people on the edge of their seat but nowadays it may be a bit tame and John Carradine in a small but decent role. Suzanne Love does do her best as the lead actress and Nicholas Love (yes they are siblings) as her mute brother who does go a bit nuts in the barn while being chatted up by Catherine Tambini, you got admit the ending was good and the house almost resembling the one on 112 Ocean Avenue was a good touch to the film.
