Default Unseen Movie 113

The Houses October Built. 2014.

Everyone enjoys a good scare and haunted house attractions are popular but 5 people go in search of the ultimate haunted house attraction get more than they bargained for when they are being stalked. This had me intrigued and kind of reminded me of Hell House LLC, and I went into blind without seeing any trailers and I'm going to be honest everything is set up perfectly until you hit the hour mark and then it goes downhill for me. I had to wind it back to see if I missed anything but didn't. This was a one time watch for me.

The Masque of the Red Death (1964)

I followed Threads with this classic from Roger Corman. At least here it's only a single village that's wiped out and not the entire country.

The best in Roger Corman's Poe cycle and a wonderful cornucopia of Vincent Price, Hazel Court and a deal with the devil, death, deceit and decadence, costume balls, virulent plague and luscious visuals all round.

I really need to write a proper review for this.

The StudioCanal Blu-ray looks exceptionally good.

Did you actually review Threads Dem? I don't think so and can't find it if you did. I'm intrigued though.

Well i'm not going to sleep after that. Need to watch some light entertainment like Combat Shock or Nekromantik.

The Exorcist. 1973.

One of the best horror films made that always amazes me.

Unseen Movie 114

From Within. 2008.

A small town is plagued by suicides due to a curse being unleashed.

Sometimes religion and horror do make a good combination, Stigmata, Vatican tapes, The Reaping are some good examples, if the writers were to re-read what they tried to create and the director not rushing about then this could have been something interesting. There was a good solid cast, suspenseful background score and great cinematography but this just felt a bit flat with the plot.

SATAN'S BLADE - 'Satan's Blade' is a lopsided film. A blade bites a tree trunk - the knife glows red and so does the tree. Then there's an overly melodramatic and sadistic bank robbery that only really happens because the clerks answer the door to someone tapping on it with a clearly visible gun. Then there's a bunch of people out for a vacation deep within snowy woodland, and this bit cuts deepest of all because it fills out the next forty minutes or so and is almost aggressively boring. 'Satan's Blade' is a regional slasher that only remembers it's a slasher when it's time for the audience to go home. Don't come here if you want a steady trickle of kills and thrills, you'll be knee deep in a newly minted lawyer's relationship problems for most of it. Something rises to the surface though, a strangeness - death scenes that are made to look weirdly abstract, a wintry piano score that alternates with buzzing funereal synths, expressionistic lighting that fills walls with distended shadows, all the weird lore they toss in about mountain men - and it's a film about a possessed knife at the end of the day. Authentically strange stuff that will reward the patient few - remember when Arrow used to put out stuff like this?

I think 'Threads' is the most truly disturbing film of all time. For pathos and sheer grinding dread it outdoes any horror film I'm aware of. Last time I saw it, I ran crying from someone's house. Bit melodramatic of me granted, but I was pissed. And it was 'Threads'.

What did you watch it for if it always bores you.
