Scrapbook was cut by over 15m by the BBFC in 2003. A record. I watched the film shortly after and am not surprised by the cuts. The films scenes of graphic rape, torture and sexual humiliation go way beyond anything that will ever be acceptable to the BBFC. Some of it was verging on hard core. |

Have you seen the film, Vince? I had nightmares after watching the film. I won't be watching it again. I think it is just beyond the pale. |

Yes I've seen it, Angel. I thought it was below contempt and I'm still surprised the BBFC didn't reject it outright back then. It's basically a porn torture film with no redeeming features whatsoever.

I doubt Toetag would bother releasing AU in the UK if it too was to suffer similar amounts of cuts, which is very likely. Apart from the opening scene however, I reckon the rest could get through, the scene in the convenience store is pretty degrading but it dosen't really feature any nudity or excessive violence. Unless your really interested in doing so, I wouldn't rush to watch Mordum Angel. It's terrible, really. Just long scenes of sexual torture, humilation etc. not entertainment in my book. Penance is a bit better as it has a bit more depth than the previous two. |

Gutterballs is another dire effort. That's the problem about these films - they are always so awful. I haven't seen the cut version of Scrapbook so I don't know exactly what was left in to still warrant an 18. When the BBFC consider rejecting a film it usually means that there is virtually nothing that they are prepared to pass. There must have been a fair bit left in this particular film despite the heavy cuts. In any case if the BBFC remove a huge amount then it would also be up to the distributor to decide whether the film is worth releasing...but they always do in the end. I suspect hoping that not too many people are aware of the cuts. Apart from watching the uncut House on the Edge of the Park I also watched the cut by nearly 12m UK version just to see what they left in. Well almost all the heavy violence has been cut but there are still nasty moments here and there as well as the strong sexual threat of violence/terrorisation directed at the women that seem to make a release worthwhile...although obviously not if you are a big fan of the film. I've only seen the cut version of House on the edge of the park to date. I've just recently aqcuired the uncut version. I haven't got round to watching it yet but i'm quite interested to see it in it's entirity due to the large amount of cuts. I bet it's quite a different film with those 12 minutes intact.

Yes indeed it is. Some scenes were removed in their entirety in the cut version. The main cuts though were near the end when Cindy makes her appearance. Very little was left here due to ALex torturing her. Apart from this some of the cuts were due to the humiliating depiction of female nudity. I think some people were surprised about these cuts where Cindy is forcibly stripped. You'll know what I mean when you see it.

Yeah mate, I agree with you there. I find fake snuff films to be crap. There has been the odd really short loop that has made me say WTF!, but after the initial surprise, a 2nd view shows it to clearly be fake. I prefer a film with a snuff theme that takes you into the world of the persons involved, thats more interesting to me than a bad fake gore job. Though I would never ever want to see a real snuff film. To me 8mm brought you to a place ace you didnt want to be, a sleezey place that made me feel dirty and uncomfortable, but I could'nt look away, then after bringing me there it yanked me out to quickly back into safe ' Action thriller ' territory for the final 3 quaters of the film. Not for a hell of a long time has a film held me in such dread and to be pulled into safe ground so quick really infuriated me. Here was a film that had me totally sucked in to a world that terrified me only to back out and play it safe for the box office. Its still a great film, but it could ave been so much more. Which is a real shame as I havent seen a film since to affect me like that since. |

Theres a scene in AU's Penance where the killers do a home invasion on christmas eve which is so far beyond horrible, thats one of the only scenes I've ever seen which I truly found disturbing. I think these films are made more as endurance tests than entertaining horror films. I'd much rather watch a horror with a snuff theme. |
