Default Buried Alive Movies!

There are few things quite as terrifying as the thought of being buried alive. It's no wonder then that horror films have long been fascinated by this fear - The Squad being the latest film to do so.

I put together a great list of the top 10 Buried Alive movies - check it out here...

Buried Alive: Let Me Out Of Here!

So, got any true premature burial stories or little facts?

Not a film, but the Edgar Allen Poe short story 'The Premature Burial' is truly hideous - one of the few stories I have read, which have resulted in me sweating and feeling very uncomfortable

Another is the 'prologue' in the Michael Slade book "Ghoul"

The scene where Catriona MacColl is gasping for breath inside a sealed coffin in Fulci's classic City of the Living Dead is a great example of claustrophobic terror.I like the segment 'Bargain in Death' in The Vault of Horror (1973) too.Which features Michael Craig being buried alive on the understanding his mate will come and dig him up later on and they'll collect the insurance money. It's a great segment and really rather funny.

The premature burial sequence in Serpent and the Rainbow freaks me out every time.

Val Lewton's Isle of the Dead has an incredibly chilling burial scene. Surprised this one didn't make the list in the poll. It's very harrowing.

In ages past they used to put a bell above the grave with a rope running down to the coffin so that anyone inadvertently buried alive can ring the bell to alert people. This is where the saying 'saved by the bell' comes from. Useless fact no. 1024563

Indeed they did - safety coffins. That's where phrases such as 'Dead ringers' and 'Saved by the bell' come from apparently (it's all in the blog ) Image one night walking past the graveyard and suddenly the bells start ringing! It'll be terrifying!

**Spoiler**

Kiefer Sutherland in the 1993 remake of 'The Vanishing' (originally made as 'Spoorloos')?
