SHAM038: THE HOUSE WITH THE LAUGHING WINDOWS

La Casa Dalle Finestre Che Ridono

“..today I painted that shameless bitch as she snuffed it..”

Often mentioned yet rarely seen, director Pupi Avati’s legendary cult horror masterpiece finally gets the release it deserves: restored and remastered under the director’s supervision, it is presented with new audio, new improved subtitles plus a new exclusive interview with Avati - making this the definitive release of this intelligent shocker.

Stefano, a young artist, arrives in a tranquil Italian village to restore the local church's fresco of the St. Sebastian martyr - depicting the saint’s bloody body slashed by arrows - painted some years earlier by a deranged local artist who, the villagers hint, created snuff paintings by torturing his models who were in the throes of dying when he painted them!

Gradually Stefano discovers the rumours about the painter might be true, as the village's gruesome and taboo secret unravels into a seething web of madness, gory deaths and unspeakable horror culminating in a final diabolical twist and jaw-dropping conclusion.

Special Features:
  • New visuals & New audio (Original Mono & Dolby 5.1.)
  • Restored under the supervision of the director
  • New improved sub-titles
  • New exclusive Pupi Avati interview
  • Theatrical Trailer
Shameless Trailer Park

In the grand scheme of recent original Shameless covers, there have been much worse. I just hope the obvious alternate artwork (the Italian theatrical poster) adorns the reverse.

it's a lot better than the Amsterdamned artwork but the photo behind the window bars should be darker. Never seen the film so will most likely pick this up.

That artwork is certainly better than the one for Amsterdamned, but I don't see how adding an interview with the director can justify it's Fan Edition moniker

It is much better than the Amsterdamned art but still leaves a lot to be desired.

Surely Shameless could hire one of the members here to do a cover?

Surely

All they had to do was centre the image properly, play around with the colour / contrast a little, and it would've looked half decent at least . . .

I had a quick go at one, nothing special and I don't think it really captures the feel of the film, but more of the era & the shameless template. And in any case the original Italian artwork is the way to go.

It's been a good few years since I saw this one (I have the Italian 20th Century Fox DVD which has tiny English subtitles), but it's a very good film - it took a few goes to warm to it and there's almost no gore to speak of but it's a very solid giallo mystery. Well worth picking up...

It's been years since I've watched this, so I'm really looking forward to picking this one up.
