Default SHAM022 - Love Goddess of the Cannibals

LOVE GODDESS OF THE CANNIBALS (SHAM022)

On the smutty fringes of the cannibal genre, Joe D'amato's tropical sleaze and gore epic is heady mix of sapphic eroticism, disco flesheating and penile violence that will leave trashy movie lovers gasping for breath. A great late 70s Porno-Disco score, Scandanavian sex starlets (in this case Sirpa Lane), exotic locales, a rich vein of Voodoo hokum, choice dialogue and a strangely relevent Eco-message make Love Goddess of the Cannibals another great addition to the Shameless collection.

The BBFC has passed the movie uncut at 85 min 20 sec. The controversial cockfighting sequence at the head of the movie remains intact, due to the fact that the filmmakers clearly shot an event that was going to happen anyway, which is a world away from the producers setting up animal cruelty deliberately for their cameras.

The Shameless print will also restore some short sequences that, in other releases had been removed due to slight damage of the negative.

Great news about the uncut status of this one. The bbfc have certainly come a long way.

Another essential disc of sleazy goodness to add to my collection.

Look's like another definitive version of a cult rarity is heading our way via Shameless .

I've never seem this before but it sounds interesting.

I'll definitely pick this up, I find myself drawn to anything bearing D'amato's name (or aliases)

Will there be any extras?

I believe Severin's U.S. DVD only boasts a trailer as an extra so i think i'll be very much interested in buying this Shameless release if it improves upon the Stateside version. Personally i like to think it will.

Similar to the ox killing in Apocalypse Now. It was passed due to it being an organized event.

Whereas they just filmed animal cruelty for their cameras that was happening anyway? I see no difference whatsoever between the two.Animal cruelty is animal cruelty. It would have been the exact same scene regardless of whether they set it up or not.

The cockfights in movies such as Return Of The Seven, Cincinnati Kid, Stick etc were staged by the filmmakers for the purpose of making the film, which is illegal under UK law.

If the BBFC have strong evidence that the footage was not staged for the purpose of making the film then they'll pass it. In this case they must have received it.

The best way is simply to ask them.
