The same debate wouldn't rage, as I'm sure most folk will acknowledge that the animal cruelty will have to go, it's not a debatable point as this is UK law - as the BBFC and Vince informed us, they consulted with the Home Office and the rules for cinema are applied to home video in regard to the Cinematograph Act.

However, the only UK DVD release was from Vipco, which was 4:3 and heavily cut - and not just the animal stuff, it's a practically bloodless film now. So if a version that was widescreen and reinstated the fake gore was released by Shameless, it would undoubtedly be a UK first, even if the animal violence is gone.

This is some of what's missing from the UK release, according to DVD Compare:

Quote:
◦R2 United Kingdom- Vipco - Yes, 06:06 min of cuts (Distributor pre-cut 6 mins, BBFC requested further 6 secs.) Cuts include (read at your own risk..):
- Removing most of the gore footage
- All elements of actual cannibalism ie: the cannibals picking at the dead bodies are removed, and when Zora Kerowa is killed, this edited version plays as though she has dissapeared, never once showing either the actual event or the aftermath of the famous "hooks through the breasts" death
- All but one of the animal deaths are missing, and the death of the pig appears trimmed
- Also cut, amongst others, is John Morghen's arm being lopped off
- The 2 castration scenes are cut
- John Morghen removing a natives eye with a knife is also cut
I have little doubt that most, if not all, of the fake gore and violence would scrape through the BBFC these days. I think this is the point Vipco is driving at. I'm not saying it will sell truckloads - but if an even more unknown title like New York Ripper can sell well, then there's hope for Ferox.

Also, the scene where Mile and Pat corner the cannibal girl is missing some dialog and shots of Mike ripping her top off and the knife being played across her breast.

Just watched this and enjoyed it, easily the best of D'Amato's carribean romps. Melissa Chimenti is abosolutely gorgeous! The transfer was good too, much better than the german dvd. I'm suprised the title sequence from the german edition wasn't included in the extras as it's completely different from the others (which, apart from the title, are the same).

I can trade you the AWE release. BRAND NEW AND SEALED =)

Just watched this and luckily there's some Mattei craziness and a good soundtrack because the story (and budget) doesn't amount to much.
Some nice location shots though.
The re-edited sex scenes reminded me of the old censored Belgian vhs porn releases I used to watch way back (all classy 70's/early 80's stuff mind ).

I haven't even taken the cellophane off mine yet, I saw today. I bought it on the day of release or thereabouts!

Never been "in the mood"...
