Enjoyed Super Duper Alice Cooper, although there wasn't that much new revelations for me as a long time Cooper fan. There was that 2009 gig on CD too, nice set. He's currently making a cover album, presumably titled Hollywood Vampires. If anyone can cover Jim Morrison, it's Alice. |

It seems that it's not going to be a completely covers record either. It should include some new songs, specially written for this release. Alice is quoted as saying: "We decided that in order to set up the 'Hollywood Vampires' thing, you had to kind of tell the story, and you had to write songs that were going to set up the story, and then get into the covers. So we had fun sitting there writing these new songs around it. So it's going to be quite a package, this thing is." Due to the fact that most of the remainder of this year is being taken up with the Motley Crue tour, it's unlikely that the record will be released until either the end of 2014, or the beginning of 2015 |
Good news. |
Suzi, I just got back from my 9 year old daughter's music night at school...the guitar class played "School's Out"! |
The Mutley Crow/Alice Cooper tour started yesterday (2nd July) in Grand Rapids, MI Apparently, this is Alice's setlist: 1. Hello Hooray 2. No More Mr. Nice Guy 3. Billion Dollar Babies 4. I'm Eighteen 5. Under My Wheels 6. Poison 7. Dirty Diamonds 8. Welcome to My Nightmare 9. Feed My Frankenstein 10. Ballad of Dwight Fry 11. Killer/I Love The Dead 12. School's Out Because he is the support act, the set is shorter than normal, and, although it is still going under the 'Raise The Dead' name, it seems that the covers section has been dropped I have not seen any proper reports as yet, but it still seems that there is a lot of scope for the theatrics - the crutch ('I'm 18'), the FrankenAlice ('Feed My Frankenstein'), the straight-jacket ('Ballad of Dwight Frye') and the execution ('Killer'/'I Love the Dead') |

It was the official kickoff of the band’s 70-odd-date “Final Tour†– its last-ever go-round, they promise - and some glitches are to be expected. But the train derailed early and significantly, and it took the clearly frustrated group half the show to get back on track. Three songs in, during “Primal Scream,†drummer Tommy Lee broke the head on his kick drum, prompting Mick Mars to fill time with a guitar solo. After five minutes of noisemaking and riffing on Jimi Hendrix’s “Little Wing†– Mars seemed hung out to dry – singer Vince Neil took the mic and apologized, tossing in a forced laugh as he told the audience it would be a few minutes before they were ready to play again. The house lights came up, and the crowd got restless. After a 10-minute delay, the band made a decent recovery, chugging through “Same Ol’ Situation†and “Looks that Kill.†“On With the Show†was supposed to merge with “Too Fast for Love,†but the band stopped dead in its tracks. “He broke something again,†Neil said of Lee. “The band forgot their own song,†bassist Nikki Sixx said. They restarted and powered through the number, Sixx visibly upset and off his game, and Neil looking confused. Then Mars experienced problems with his monitors and guitars. Cue another delay, and a few boos. “Oh man. First-night (expletive). We’re breaking down. You guys can always say you were here,†Neil half-heartedly joked." But, remembering who this thread is about, what was the report concerning Alice: "If the world was a just place, opener Alice Cooper would be headlining arenas, with his protégés in spectacle – Kiss, Motley Crue, Iron Maiden – as the support act. But the Detroit-born legend is primarily a nostalgia act now, albeit a damn good one. His 50-minute set was all hits – “School’s Out,†“Under my Wheels,†“I’m Eighteen,†“Poison,†“No More Mr. Nice Guy†– and classic Alice shtick. The original horror-rocker trotted out his pet boa constrictor, had his head chopped off in a guillotine, was tortured by a naughty and ghoulish nurse and was electrocuted in a Frankensteinian contraption. Nothing new for Alice, but we love him for never breaking character, and entertaining us without fail." |
Rumour has it that the upcoming covers album will feature Paul McCartney, Joe Perry, Johnny Depp and Orianthi amongst others! |
Yawn! Same old, same old from Alice, with the exception of Dirty Diamonds. He's getting a free ride, be adventurous in your song selection for a change. |
Not surprised to hear Motley Crue are leaving much to be desired. I saw them at Hellfest 2009 and walked off halfway through their set (they declined to appear on the screens either side of the stage, and instead played porn. Not what you want to be watching with your best mate and his Dad!), and again in 2011 or 2012 (I forget which) with Def Leppard and Steel Panther. They weren't the worst of the night (Def Leppard just sounded exhausted - understandable on the last gig of a full world tour, but talk about going out with a fizzle) but they weren't a patch on Steel Panther. Alice, however, I've never seen put on a bad gig (although Hellfest 2010 was questionable, but only because he played School's Out twice for some reason). |
I must admit i couldn't give two hoots if this tour crosses the Atlantic or not. The Crue were past their best on The Carnival of Sins tour, occasionally it was difficult to tell if Mick Mars was actually alive or not. Neil's voice is totally shot now. They are quitting touring for a reason. If it wasn't the case they would continue just like Alice has. :) |
