The thrid song on the album, 'Give The Radio Back' , is unmemorable. A minute after it ended, I cannot remember anything about it 03/10 - Give The Radio Back (Cooper, Roberts) "Hey teacher, whatcha trying to do? I'm gettin' tired livin' in this zoo You slap my face and you knock me down You beat my head right in the ground I never ever felt this way before I can't take it no more So give the radio... Yeah, give the radio back Give the radio back to the maniacs, to the maniacs.. Well, there's a party going on outside All my friends got ya terrified Don't call the cops, call the State Police Don't break up this blown-out symphony You think I'm wasting all my precious time You say my music oughta be a crime Give the radio Give the radio back Yeah, give the radio back To the maniac To the maniacs I never ever felt this way before Ain't gonna take it no more Yeah, give the radio.. Give the radio back Ah, give the radio back To the maniacs To the maniacs Oh, give the radio To the maniacs Oh, give the radio To the maniacs Give it, give it, give it, give it, give, give, give give give the radio To the maniacs The little maniacs You're all maniacs" 'Step On You' is a 'chugga', with a strange rhythm. It's the weirdest song on the album, but in this instance, weird doesn't equal good. Apparently, for the sound created just before the solo, Kane got a metal coin and ground it into the strings. He stated that Alice and himself wanted it to sound like a rusted giant robot was stepping on people and crushing them 04/10 - Step On You (Cooper, Roberts) "You're in my way You cross the line You're in my face You're on my case, you really waste my time Don't like your style Don't like your sound You talk too much You got no touch, you drive it in the ground I'm gonna step on you I'm gonna step on you I'm gonna step - on - you I'm gonna step on you Don't like your smile Don't like your clothes Don't like your hair And I don't care about your ruby-pierced nose You push too far You talk too loud You stay too long You're in my song but you ain't in my crowd I'm gonna step on you I'm gonna step on you I'm gonna step - on - you I'm gonna step on you You ruin my day You're wrecking my night I'm biting my lips because I'm ready to fight I'm gonna sharpen my spikes I'm gonna strap on my boots I'm gonna squash you on sight Oh, I'm gonna step on you Step Step Step Step You ruin my day You're wrecking my night I'm biting my lips because I'm ready to fight I'm gonna sharpen my spikes I'm gonna strap on my boots I'm gonna squash you on sight Step Don't leave me no message on my telephone Cut right through to bull, right to the bone The snow in your nose And the crack in your brain It used to be cool, now it's just insane I'm gonna step on you Step I'm gonna step on you Step Step!"

The final song on the first side is entitled 'Not That Kind Of Love', and it's another stop-start tune. It opens with a spoken intro, and then becomes yet another unmemorable tune 05/10 - Not That Kind Of Love (Cooper, Roberts) "[Spoken] Hello, my little pretty My, don't we look YUCK Come here! You spend all day picking out your dress I like you dirty, when you're hair is a mess You smell so sweet walking in the room yeah You don't have to try so hard to drown me in perfume Don't cry your heart out Don't tell your preacher Don't get ideas, this won't last forever Just wanna touch you Just wanna feel you Just wanna taste you I never wanted, I never wanted love before I never wanted, I never wanted love before Not that kind of love Not that kind of love No, not that kind of love It's not that kind of love No, it's not that kind of love Yeah... I don't want to know your dad or mom And a, I won't be calling you to go to the prom If you want to go, some cheap motel You can pick me up at eight, I'll never tell Don't cry your heart out Don't tell your preacher Don't get ideas, this won't last forever Just wanna touch you Just wanna feel you Just wanna taste you I never wanted, I never wanted love before I never wanted, I never wanted love before Not that kind of love Not that kind of love Not that kind of love Not that kind of love No no Not that kind of love Not that kind of love Not that kind of love Not that kind of love Not that kind of love Not that kind of love Not that kind of love Don`t gimme that kind of love (fade)" Things pick up on the second side of the LP, where Alice and Kane create an aural splatter movie! The side opens with 'Prince Of Darkness'. This is probably the best known tune on the album for forum members, being the theme music for the John Carpenter film of the same name. Alice had a leading role in the movie, and the video features a lot of clips from it, including the impalement scene, which an effect that was first used during 'The Nightmare Returns' tour, and is still regularly used in live shows Lyrically, it's a literal interpretation of what The Bible says about Satan, and to my mind, this is where it fails. If you are going to sing about The Devil, the vocal delivery needs to be evil, but here it's a standard performance 06/10 - Prince Of Evil (Cooper, Roberts) "An angel fell one stormy night From heaven's glory He split the earth to reign in hell Waoh o-oh He fears the light He fears the truth He fears what's going to be He spits on life He spits on God He spits up death for you and me Prince of Darkness Studies the world with hungry eyes Prince of Darkness Ready to baptize you in lies Heart of evil Soul of blackness Prince of Darkness He saw the man was just a boy With a baby's mind He swore damnation of God's creation Waoh o-oh He lives for hate He lives for tears He lives up to his name He knew the light He knew the one Who was crucified in pain Prince of Darkness Studies the world with hungry eyes Prince of Darkness Ready to baptize you in lies Heart of evil Soul of blackness He fears the light He fears the truth He fears what's going to be He spits on life He spits on God He spits up death for you and me Prince of Darkness Studies the world with hungry eyes Prince of Darkness Ready to baptize you in lies Prince of Darkness Studies the world with hungry eyes Prince of Darkness Ready to baptize you in lies Prince of Darkness He smells the breath of sweet human sin And deeply breathes it in Prince of Darkness"

The second song on the second side is 'Time To Kill', which is a good hard rocking song, with a nice performance from Alice. He sounds evil here, which is the kind of vocal stylings he should have used during 'Prince Of Darkness' 07/10 – Time To Kill (Cooper, Roberts) "Well, I was born on a dead end street I'm cold-blooded but I always felt the heat All my friends are dead and gone If there's a hell, I'm one step closer to it Somewhere I crossed the line Somewhere I'm lost in time I lost my soul and now I'm losing my mi-mi-mi-mind Time to kill I've had enough of all of your lies I only got time to kill You've seen the fire in my eyes I only got time to kill I spend my days counting bricks on the wall And every night I hear those sirens call I sink deeper into a convict's sleep And dream about the day I'm gonna hit the streets One time I cursed the man He laughed and broke my hand I'm gonna take that fist and make him understand I'll make him understand I had enough of long goodbyes I only got time to kill I feel the fire in my eyes I only got time to kill You know I always thought there was time enough to win the game But now I know the times are rough and seasons change Oh times are strange Somewhere I crossed the line Somewhere I'm lost in time I lost my soul and now I'm losing my mi-mi-mi-mind Time to kill I've had enough of all of your lies I only got time to kill You've seen the fire in my eyes I only got time to kill I've had enough of long goodbyes I've only got time to kill I feel the fire in my eyes I've only got time to kill " We now get to the pièce de résistance of the album, and the best thing(s) that Alice has done for a LONG time – the serial killer trilogy. It's possible that this is actually a serial killer tetralogy, and 'Time To Kill' provides the first movement, but when it was performed live, the suite consisted only of the next three songs, so lets leave it as a trilogy First up is 'Chop, Chop, Chop', a chilling song, setting the scene for the mayhem to come. It's a hard rocking song, with a very restrained performance from Kane 1/3 (or 8/10 depending) – Chop, Chop, Chop, (Cooper, Roberts) "Some people call me the creeper 'Cause they don't know my name or face I got 'em running in circles Because a homicidal genius never leaves a trace I'm a lonely hunter City full of game Walkin' in the neon lights Chop, chop, chop - engine of destruction Chop, chop, chop - a perfect killing machine Chop, chop, chop - it's a symbiotic function Chop, chop, chop - I keep the city so clean Chop, chop, chop Some people call me the Ripper Stole my modus operandi from the movie screen She's just a celluloid stripper Just another bloody player in my splatter-filled dream Women on the streets Want money when we meet I take them for a little ride Chop, chop, chop - I'm an engine of destruction Chop, chop, chop - a perfect killing machine Chop, chop, chop - it's a symbiotic function Chop, chop, chop - I keep the city so clean Chop, chop, chop [Spoken] She was standing on the corner with her bright red lips Her face was so white and pale So pale She had a black leather skirt that was tight to her hips And an anklet with a name It spelled M-A-R-Y...Gail! Gail Gail Gail Gail Gail Gail... (fade)"

![]() 'Gail' is a really nice throwback to the kind of song that was recorded by the original ACG, or even Alice himself in the early days of his solo career. It's a very minimalistic, gothic song, which, for the most part, only has a harpsichord being played, before exploding into a slow rock song at the end. Prepare to have chills up the spine when you listen to it As a piece of trivia, Gail is Cheryl's middle name Kip Winger plays the keyboard on the song 02/03 (or 09/10 depending) – Gail (Cooper, Roberts, Winger) "A tree has grown on the spot Where her body did rest Blood seeped in the soil From the knife in her chest The bugs serve time in her skeletal jail I wonder how the bugs remember Gail Oh, what a lovely young girl Everybody would say You can still hear her laugh In the shadows on a cold winter day A dog dug up a bone and wagged his tail I wonder how the dog.. remembers Gail The bugs serve time in her skeletal jail I wonder how that I'll remember Gail" The final track on the album is 'Roses On White Lace', a song which (for me) is filled with contradictions. The lyrics are truly chilling, but at the same time, they are strangely poetic. The vocal delivery is incredible, but I hate the use of the vocoder (or whatever is being used to create the effect). The tune doesn't need the 'million notes a second' during the song, but here it works. It's incredibly catchy, and like the opening cut on the album, I cannot stop singing this song. 3/3 (or 10/10 depending) – Roses On White Lace (Cooper, Roberts) "I saw you in your wedding gown The prettiest dress I came into your room that night And made such a mess In my own way, I lovingly kiss the bride With your ring in your hand Your eyes and your mouth open wide In my eyes Blood drops look like roses on white lace They won't wash away In my mind they're roses on white lace Straight from the heart So dead upon the bed You hurt me in the deepest way I'm crippled inside I took your evil skin away It's all cut and dried I saw you tonight and carefully took your hand With some smears on my cheeks I knew that you'd understand In my eyes Blood drops look like roses on white lace They won't wash away In my mind they're roses on white lace Straight from the heart So dead upon the bed Still searching for your head Oh, they're never going to find your face It's hidden away I found a very special place where you used to play In my own way, I lovingly kiss the bride With your ring in your hand Your heart and your mouth open wide In my eyes Blood drops look like roses on white lace They won't wash away In my mind they're roses on white lace Straight from the heart Blood drops look like roses on white lace Crimson and sweet - stained on the sheet Roses on white lace - pretty in red, dripping and wet Roses on white lace - spilled on the walls, dark in the hall Roses on white lace Roses on white lace Roses on white lace (fade)" The tour to promote the album was entitled 'The Live In The Flesh Tour', and the dates playing in Europe turned out to be extremely controversial for the graphic depiction of violence onstage. Most of the more violent acts were heavily inspired by the horror movies of the time, including the impalement gag from 'Prince Of Darkness' and large amounts of stage blood. The tour was considered to be so violent that when Alice played in Germany, the shows were censored, with various parts of the concert having to be removed. In addition to that, people under the age of 18 were turned away from the doors In England, the Daily Mirror from April 1988 ran a story stating:
The touring band consisted of: Alice Cooper – Vocals Kane Roberts – Guitar Johnny Dime (Arthur Funaro) - guitar Ken Mary – drums Steve Steele – bass Paul 'Horrors' Horowitz - keyboards Additional performers - Karen Russell, Lisa Oakley UK dates were played between April 1st – April 12th 1988, and were at Edinburgh, Sheffield, Birmingham, Wembley, Newcastle and Manchester. Support on the European leg came from Chrome Molly, although the US dates featured (amongst others) Guns N' Roses, Faster Pussycat and Motorhead as support On the UK dates, serious injury was narrowly avoided at the Wembley dates. Kerrang magazine reported: [i]“Alice Cooper had a bad experience on the last night of his Wembley dates when the safety device failed on the gallows which Alice uses to perform on stage. A shaken and shocked Alice had to be cut free from the noose which had tightened around his neck and he suffered severe bruising on his neck as a result of the accident. Needless to say the man is such a professional that he continued with the full show despite his injury”[i/] The basic setlist for this tour was:
Sadly, there was no official video release of this tour, although rehearsal footage can be found on the second disc of the 'Prime Cuts' DVD. However, there is a VERY rough audience recording of the show at Stockholm (April 16th, 1988) on YouTube here . NOTE – For the Sweden shows only, 'He's Back' was played before 'Freedom' due to the fact it had been a big hit single the previous year

This has just cropped up on an Alice Cooper forum: "It appears that the Hollywood Vampires show next Friday (May 27th) will be streamed live at http://www.livexlive.com/ . There's a looping promo video running now on the site, featuring Alice, which you can see below advertising the event. According to the festival site the band are scheduled to take the stage at 11.45 local time which, if i'm correct, will be 10.45 UK time, so do you're own calculations for where you are."
