Alice Cooper ballads are strange things - they are either very good and believable, or they are, um, trash! The final song on the first side, 'Only My Heart Talking', falls into the latter category It wouldn't be too bad, but the tune is bland, the lyrics are obvious and his voice sounds strained Alice Cooper - Vocals John McCurry - Guitar Hugh McDonald - Bass Bobby Chouinard - Drums Alan St. John - Keyboards Steven Tyler from Aerosmith provides guest vocals on the song The co-writers for this song were Andy Goldmark, who has also written for Carly Simon, Jennifer Paige, and Michael Bolton and Bruce Roberts, who has penned songs for such rock heavyweights as Engelbert Humperdinck, Barbra Streisand, Cliff Richard and The Kids From Fame It's interesting to note that the video continues with the 'chains' motif that was used in the 'Poison' video, and also for the live shows 05/10 - Only My Heart Talking (Roberts, Goldmark, Cooper) "Anybody's dream can fall apart Anybody's mask can break Couldn't tell you how I wanted you Enough to make you want to stay I never said the words out loud I guess I couldn't get 'em straight Baby, give me one more chance Before you walk away It's only, only, only, only my heart talkin' Yeah, it's only, only, only, only my heart talkin' Sayin' things I never thought I'd say Can't you hear me knocking I tried to fool you but it wouldn't play 'Cause my heart it's talkin', it's talkin' Oh baby, it's talkin' Talkin' to you Everytime I take it to the edge Everytime I'm so afraid Don't you know I cry my eyes out, babe Everytime you look away Oh, I almost dropped a tear But I caught it just in time I'd say those things you want to hear If you'd help me, help me, help me try It's only, only, only, only my heart talkin' Yeah, it's only, only, only, only my heart talkin' Sayin' things I never thought I'd say Can't you hear me knocking Tried to fool you but it wouldn't play 'Cause my heart it's talkin', it's talkin' Baby, it's talkin' Talkin' to you Well, I don't want to hide away Hide away without you, baby Don't you go and run away Come and help me, baby Just a little help, baby Oh, my little baby It's only, only, only, only my heart talkin' Yeah, it's only, only, only, only my heart talkin' Sayin' things I never thought I'd say Can't you hear me knocking I tried to fool you but it wouldn't play 'Cause my heart it's talkin', it's talkin' Baby, it's talkin' Talkin' to you It's only, only, only, only my heart talkin' Yeah, it's only, only, only, only my heart talkin' Yeah it`s only only only only only, only only only My heart talkin` Talkin' to you It's my heart that does the talkin' talkin' to you ah... talkin' to you" Opening side two is 'Bed Of Nails', and the guitar playing of Kane Roberts is immediately obvious! Musically, this is a good rock song, with an opening that is reminiscent of the gothic rock from the original ACG, but what lets it down are the lyrics. No less a person than Bob Dylan has stated that 'Alice Cooper is a very under-rated songwriter', but we are now being forced to listen to lines such as "Our love is a bed of nails Love hurts good on a bed of nails I'll lay you down and when all else fails I'll drive you like a hammer on a bed of nails" It's as if Alice gave a notebook to a 14 year old metalhead in 1989 and said 'write me a song'! The song was covered by the band Children Of Bodom on their 'Hellhounds On My Trail' EP. Their version is here Alice Cooper - Vocals John McCurry - Guitar Hugh McDonald - Bass Bobby Chouinard - Drums Alan St. John - Keyboards Kane Roberts plays guitar on the track Diane Warren is the other credited writer Note: More chains in the video 06/10 - Bed Of Nails (Cooper, Warren, Child) "[spoken] (I love the way you hurt me, my tears, your wine Your thorns withdraw my blood and fall like crimson rain. Light candles in the pale moon shining above us. The line between pleasure in pain has slowly vanished Reaching deeper and deeper into a void of your venomous love) Yeah, we're gonna fight We do it every night Baby, when you scratch You know I'm gonna bite You can make me die I can make you cry Opposites attract That's the reason why No one else could make you feel like I do, I do, I do No one ever gets as deep inside you As I do, baby Our love is a bed of nails Love hurts good on a bed of nails I'll lay you down and when all else fails I'll drive you like a hammer on a bed of nails Yeah... First we're gonna kiss then we're gonna say Dirty little words Only lovers say Rockin' through the night Rollin' on the floor When they hear us screamin' They'll be breakin' down the door No one else could make you feel like I do, I do, I do No one ever gets as deep inside you As I do, baby Our love is a bed of nails Love hurts good on a bed on nails I'll lay you down and when all else fails I'll drive you like a hammer on a bed of nails Bed of nails, bed of nails I'll drive you like a hammer on a bed of nails Ow, ow, ow, ow, ow Gonna drive you like a hammer Baby, put me in your slammer, oh yeah No one else could make you feel Like I do, I do, I do No one ever gets as deep inside you As I do, baby Our love is a bed of nails Love hurts good on a bed of nails I'll lay you down and when all else fails I'll drive you like a hammer on a bed of nails Our love is a bed of nails Love hurts good on a bed of nails I'll lay you down and when all else fails I'll drive you like a hammer on a bed of nails Bed of nails, get on my bed of nails I'll drive you like a hammer on a bed of nails Ow, ow, ow, ow, ow Gonna drive you like a hammer Baby, put me in your slammer, oh yeah I'll drive you like a hammer on a bed of nails Ow ow ow ow ow I`ll drive you drive you drive you drive you drive you drive you oh yeah Drive you like a hammer on a bed of nailes Ow ow ow ow ow I`ll drive you drive you drive you drive you drive you drive you oh yeah"

Continuing with side two of 'Trash', 'This Maniacs In Love With You' is not the ballad that the title would have you believe. Instead it is a guitar based rocker. Again, it's a bland 80's rock song. Alice Cooper - Vocals John McCurry - Guitar Hugh McDonald - Bass Bobby Chouinard - Drums Alan St. John - Keyboards For the last time on the album, Guy Mann-Dude plays guitar The co-writers for this song were Bob Held, who also worked with Deep Purple and Joe Lynn Turner, and also Tom Teeley, who was a member of the New York based new wave band The Metromen 07/10 - This Maniacs In Love With You (Cooper, Teeley, Held, Child) " I used to be so in control But reality is losing its hold Now I don't know where to begin Just look at the state that I'm in My mind is in total decay I'm comin' to take you away There's nothing more that I can do (This maniac's in love with you ) Your biggest fear has just come true (This maniac's in love with you ) (This maniac's in love with you ) (This maniac, this maniac ) My heart has been strapped in a straight jacket love The therapy boys say it fits like a glove I'm crossing the line in my brain The line between pleasure and pain It takes all I've got to survive This madness will eat me alive There's nothing more that I can do (This maniac's in love with you) Your biggest fear has just come true (This maniac's in love with you) There's nothing more that I can do (This maniac's in love with you) I'm all locked up inside of you (This maniac, this maniac) I just don't know where to begin Just look at the state that I'm in My mind is in total decay I'm comin' to take you away There's nothing more that you can do {This maniac's in love with you} Your biggest fear has just come true {This maniac's in love with you} There's nothing more that you can do {This maniac's in love with you} Your biggest fear has just come true {This maniac, this maniac} {This maniac's in love with you} {This maniac's in love with you} There's nothing more that you can do {This maniac's in love with you} You`re biggest fear has just come true {This maniac's in love with you} Putting my hand up fumblin' through {This maniac's in love with you} You`re biggest fearhas just comerue {This maniac's in love with you} {This maniac's in love with you} " The album's title track is next, and 'Trash' is almost a good song. Musically, it sounds like a throwback to the 70's material Alice was recording Alice Cooper - Vocals John McCurry - Guitar Hugh McDonald - Bass Bobby Chouinard - Drums Alan St. John - Keyboards For the guest artists on this song, Alice brings out the big guns. Alongside the normal band, it also features: Jon Bon Jovi - Vocals Tom Hamilton (Aerosmith) - Bass Joey Kramer (Aerosmith) - Drums Mark Frazier - Guitar Jack Johnson - Guitar 08/10 - Trash (Cooper, Frazier, Sever, Child) "It ain't the way you crawl across the Cathouse floor An' ain't the way you curse me when you slam the bedroom door An' aint the way you sweat me for a handful of easy cash Yeah, just the way you love me when you turn to trash Trash, yeah.. It's not the way you dress when you socialize, oh those eyes An' ain't the diamond rock or that Rolls you drive Aw, you can walk the streets with all your uptown flash, such flash But when you hit the sheets you just turn to trash You're such trash I love the way you look You're such a high class tramp It's not the way you touch me when your... You're daddy's dream, you're a peach in cream and you're finally ripe at last But when you hit the sheets you just turn to trash Trash , Trash Yeah you're trash [Jon]C'mon momma, help me climb aboard, owww..... I love the way you look You're such a high class tramp, I like a tramp It's not the way you touch me when your... Make me understand You're daddy's dream, you're a peach in cream and you're finally ripe at last But when you hit the sheets you just turn to trash [Alice] Oh You know you`re mighty cool, you know you`re mighty wild C'mon down here with that penthouse smile Trash [Jon] Dirty baby.. [Alice] Baby you get down low as you can get [Alice] Been dreaming hard and put away wet [Alice] Trash [Both] What you want, what you want, what you want,I got it [Both] What you want, what you want, what you want,I got it [Jon] Hey baby what`s you`re name [Alice] Oh she`s trash.. [Jon] ahuh [Alice] Street trash [Jon] How low can you go? [Alice] Looooww [Jon] If my love was like a lolly pop would you lick it? [Alice] Until you get to the chewy centre"

The ballad 'Hell Is Living Without You' is the penultimate song on the album. It's a decent pop-metal song with some weird effects on the vocals. It also has a strange atmosphere to it Alice Cooper - Vocals John McCurry - Guitar Hugh McDonald - Bass Bobby Chouinard - Drums Alan St. John - Keyboards Special guests on this song were Richie Sambora - Guitar Steve Lukather - Guitar The co-writers are Jon Bon Jovi and Richie Sambora 09/10 – Hell Is Living Without You (Cooper, Bon Jovi, Sambora, Child) "I can't find your face in a thousand masqueraders You're hidden in the colors of a million other lost charaders In life's big parade I'm the loneliest spectator 'Cause you're gone without a trace in a sea of faceless imitators I can't take another night Burning inside this... Hell is living without your... Love ain't nothin' without your... Touch me, heaven would be like... Hell is living without you Try to walk away when I see the time I've wasted Starving at a feast and all this wine I've never tasted On my lips your memory has been stained Is it all in vain Tell me who's to blame I can't take another night Burning inside this Hell is living without your... Love ain't nothin' without your... Touch me, heaven would be like... Hell is living without you Nights get longer and colder I'm down and begging to hold ya On my own and I feel like... Hell is living without you (Living without you) Living without you... Hell is living without your... Love ain't nothin' without your... Touch me, heaven would be like... Hell is living without you Nights get longer and colder I'm down begging to hold ya On my own and I feel like Hell is living without you Ahhh" Musically, the final track on the album, 'I'm Your Gun', is a good, fast paced rocker. What lets it down, however, are the lyrics again. The 14 year old metalhead who wrote 'Bed Of Nails' must have just seen his first copy of Mayfair magazine and, as a result, he came up with: "Pull my trigger, I get bigger, Then I'm lots of fun I'm your gun Bite my bullet, Push and pull it, Tell me I'm the one I'm your gun Squeeze it tighter, Aim and fire, yeah Hold on steady, always ready, yeah, yeah, yeah Rub my barrel, Straight and narrow Dress up like a nun, n-n-n-nun I'm your gun Load my clip and lick your lips, This is gettin' fun I'm your gun Hold on steady (Hold on) Always ready, yeah" It's a joke, right? It cannot be a serious attempt at songwriting Alice Cooper - Vocals John McCurry - Guitar Hugh McDonald - Bass Bobby Chouinard - Drums Alan St. John - Keyboards 10/10 – I'm Your Gun (Cooper, McCurry, Child) "[Spoken] Your momma thinks I'l filthy (all right) Your daddy thinks I'm scum (all right) Wrap your fingers all around me, I'm your g-g-g-g-g-g-g-g-gun.... Well... I'm dressed in black I'm a heart attack And my draw is lightning quick If you're looking for a man with magic hands I can really do the trick And if you see me on the street And you're burnin' from the heat There's a fire down below You be the target on the bed I'll be shootin' hot lead Let me take control You're a scared little girl in this big, bad town (You.......... need............. some............... one) So easy to sink, so easy to drown (Who will be strong) Pull my trigger, I get bigger Then I'm lots of fun I'm your gun I'm your gun, gun, gun Bite my bullet Push an' pull it Tell me I'm the one I'm your gun I'm your gun, gun, gun Hold on steady, always ready, yeah Well, I'm as hard as they come I'm a hit and run I'm a pistol packin' boy Better walk real slow I'm on the edge, y'know And I'm easily annoyed If something's giving you trouble I'll be there on the double Just call me on the line I've got a muscle I can flex It'll fog your little specs Till you think you're going blind I know these streets like the scars on my back (You.......... need............. some............... one) And I stay as loaded as this gun on my back (Who..........will................. be.....................strong) Pull my trigger, I get bigger Then I'm lots of fun I'm your gun I'm your gun, gun, gun Bite my bullet Push and pull it Tell me I'm the one I'm your gun I'm your gun, gun, gun Squeeze it tighter Aim and fire, yeah Hold on steady, always ready, yeah, yeah, yeah Pull my trigger, I get bigger Then I'm lots of fun I'm your gun I'm your gun, gun, gun Rub my barrel Straight and narrow Dress up like a nun, n-n-n-nun I'm your gun Your gun, gun, gun Load my clip and lick your lips This is gettin' fun I'm your gun I'm your gun, gun, gun Hold on steady (Hold on) Always ready, yeah" The tour for the album was 'Alice Cooper Trashes The World' and, surprisingly, it was the first time he toured in Japan Although it was reported in Kerrang that ex-Kiss guitarist Mark St. John would be joining the band for the tour, it didn't happen. It has also been suggested that Alice wanted Steve Vai, but due to prior commitments (Vai was with Whitesnake at the time) this also failed to happen. As a result, the touring band consisted of: Alice Cooper - Vocals Al Pitrelli - guitar Pete Friesen - guitar Tommy 'T-Bone' Carradona - bass Jonathan Mover - drums Derek Sherinian - keyboards The tour began with a small warm-up show on Nov 23rd, 1989 at London's Marquee Club. To get into this show, fans had to collect rubbish from the streets of London in special 'Trash' black bin liners and hand them in before they could pay to get in. The setlist for this concert, which lasted barely an hour was:
Further UK dates were played between December 5th - December 14th 1989, and were at Glasgow, Belfast, Newcastle, Wembley and Birmingham. Support came from Great White and Britney Fox. The basic setlist for this tour was:
There was a video release of 'Alice Cooper Trashes The World', recorded at the shows at the Birmingham NEC on Dec 13th (concert) and Dec 14th (cutaways and audience shots). It's entertaining, but it's certainly not one of the best Alice Cooper concert videos

Alice started the second leg of his solo tour on Thursday, 9th June. This runs until the 24th June, and are the European dates There is very little change to the set that he has played for the US dates: 'Is It My Body' has been dropped. The order of 'Long Way To Go' and 'Woman Of Mass Distraction' has been changed. 'Under The Bed' has been added just before the covers section, but I am unsure whether this is the actual song from 'W2MN' or a spoken piece to introduce the 'Raise The Dead' segment. Finally, a cover of the Motorhead song 'Ace Of Spades' has been added
It's possible that more changes will be made as the tour progresses, but we will have to wait and see!

![]() 'Hey Stoopid', released in 1991, was Alice's 19th studio album. It was always going to be hard, following up the worldwide success of the previous release, and although 'Hey Stoopid' didn't quite manage to to hit those heights, in some ways it's a much better album. Sadly overlooked because the precceding album was so huge, this is the one that should have been the hit. Like the previous album, Alice recruited a number of big 'special guest' artists to appear on the record 'Hey Stoopid' also featured the return of a character who hadn't been seen since 1976... Producer - Peter Collins The first song is the album's title track. 'Hey Stoopid' has a strong anti-drug message in which Alice warns young people about the dangers and pitfalls of drug abuse and promotes the benefits of living drug-free. It also addresses suicide among teens and young adults, stressing that should never be an option, no matter how depressed, lonely or isolated an individual may feel It's a stadium rock song, with a crunchy, complex, catchy melody The song was the first single from the album, reaching #21 in the UK charts. Alice Cooper - Vocals Slash - Guitars Joe Satriani - Guitars, Backing Vocals Stef Burns - Guitars Hugh McDonald - Bass Mickey Curry - Drums John Webster - Keyboards Steve Croes - Synclavier Ozzy Osbourne - Backing Vocals Zachary Nevel - Backing Vocals The credited writes are: Jack Ponti, who has also written for Bon Jovi, Doro, Bonfire and Keel; Vic Pepe, who also wrote for Jetboy, Doro and Babylon AD; and Bob Pfeifer, who was the executive producer of 'Hey Stoopid' and went on to be the president of Hollywood Records 01/12 - Hey Stoopid (Cooper, Ponti, Pepe, Pfeifer)) "Hey Hey Hey Hey Hey Hey Hey Hey Hey Stoopid Hey bro, take it slow You ain't livin' in a video You're flying low with a high velocity No doubt, you're stressin' out That ain't what rock n' roll's about Get off that one way trip down lonely street Now I know you've been kicked around You ain't alone in this ugly town You stick a needle in your arm You bite the dust, you buy the farm Hey, hey, hey, hey, hey stoopid What ya tryin' to do Hey, hey, hey, hey, hey stoopid They win you lose Hey, hey, hey, hey, hey stoopid C'mon girl, it's a better day Get your foot out of that grave Don't let that one love tear your world apart C'mon babe, kick that stuff Show the street it ain't so tough Quit lyin' around with a crippled, broken heart Now I know you've been seeing red Don't put a pistol to your head Sometimes your answer's heaven sent Your way is so damn permanent Hey, hey, hey, hey, hey stoopid What ya tryin' to do Hey, hey, hey, hey, hey stoopid They win you lose Hey, hey, hey, hey, hey stoopid This ain't your daddy talkin' You know, I know Your story ain't so shockin' You know, I know Blow some steam C'mon and scream Hey, hey, hey, hey, hey stoopid What ya tryin' to do Hey, hey, hey, hey, hey stoopid They win you lose Hey, hey, hey, hey Hey, hey, hey, hey, hey stoopid What ya tryin' to do Hey, hey, hey, hey, hey stoopid They win you lose Hey, hey, hey, hey, Ohhhhh.. C'mon man, what you trying to do Yeah yeah yeah If you do that, they win you lose Hey Stoopid" The second song, 'Love's A Loaded Gun', is a relatively slow song, almost a ballad! It was the second single from the album, although it only reached #38 in the UK charts Alice Cooper - Vocals Stef Burns - Guitars Hugh McDonald - Bass Mickey Curry - Drums John Webster - Keyboards Robert Bailey - Keyboards 02/12 - Love's A Loaded Gun (Cooper, Ponti, Pepe) "Somebody saw you at the station You had your suitcase in your hand You didn't give no information You walked off with another man I'm always standing in the shadows, baby I watched you give yourself away You take 'em home into your bedroom Aw..., you had another busy day I tried to look the other way and fake it You push me to the limits I can't take it One down, one to go Just another bullet in the chamber Sometimes love's a loaded gun Red lights, stop and go Whatcha gonna do when you play with danger Sometimes love's a loaded gun And it shoots to kill Someday they'll put me in a squad car Someday they'll throw away the key But 'til that day I'll be a mad dog 'Cause that's what you taught me to be You looked into the eyes of men above you I was the one who really tried to love you One down, one to go Just another bullet in the chamber Sometimes love's a loaded gun Red lights, stop and go Hey whatcha gonna do when you play with danger Sometimes love's a loaded gun And it shoots to kill Aww.. Pull the trigger I tried to look the other way and fake it You know, you push me right to the limit I can't take it One down, one to go Just another bullet in the chamber Sometimes love's a loaded gun Red lights, stop and go Whatcha gonna do when you play with danger Sometimes love's a loaded gun (One down, one to go) (Just another bullet in the chamber) You`re like a hit and run (Sometimes love's a loaded gun) Shoot like a son.. (Red lights, stop and go) Aw..... (Whatcha gonna do when you play with danger) (Sometimes love's a loaded gun) Somebody saw you at the station"

The third song is entitled 'Snakebite', which is a good, fast paced rocker. It's a catchy song, with a good bass sound A real rattlesnake was used to get the sound of the rattle at the start of the song As well as the obvious meaning, a 'snakebite' is a drink that is usually made of equal parts lager and cider. Although it is not illegal in England, many pubs will refuse to sell it due to the troublesome reputation it has. Mixing fruit alcohol and grain alcohol is generally considered to be a bad idea and snakebite seems to have the power to intoxicate quicker and more potently than your average brew. Variations include adding a dash of blackcurrant cordial to the mix, making a drink known as 'Diesel', and then adding a measure of vodka, making a 'Turbo Diesel' Alice Cooper - Vocals Stef Burns - Guitars Hugh McDonald - Bass Mickey Curry - Drums John Webster - Keyboards The other credited writes are Lance Bulen and Kelly Keeling, both of whom played with the American band Baton Rouge. 03/12 - Snakebite (Cooper, Ponti, Pepe, Pfeifer, Bulen, Keeling) "Somebody better shake you Somebody better turn your head around I'm scratching like a wild cat I'm spittin' fire on the ground You got my venom running thru ya Ain't gonna let you run off wild I'm Snakebite I'm your only man Snakebite is your lover You'll never hide, baby understand Snakebite drags you under I'm Snakebite They call me Snakebite Nobody gonna take you Nobody gonna touch your rebel skin I'll break 'em like a matchstick 'Cause baby that's the kind of mood I'm in My face is tattooed on your shoulder An' your name is scratched into my bike, yeah I'm Snakebite, I'm your only man Snakebite is your lover You'll never hide, baby understand Snakebite drags you under I'm Snakebite They call me Snakebite You got my venom runnin' thru ya (thru ya) If you're gonna run Go running scared, I'm right behind ya I'm Snakebite, I'm your only man Snakebite is your lover You'll never hide, baby understand Snakebite drags you under I'm Snakebite, I'm your only man Snakebite is your lover You'll never hide, baby understand Snakebite drags you under I'm Snakebite They call me Snakebite (Snakebite, I'm your only man) (Snakebite is your lover) I'm gonna slither on up to ya.. (You'll never hide, baby understand) (Snakebite drags you under ) I'm gonna crawl up your leg (Snakebite, I'm your only man) (Snakebite is your lover) I'm gonna give you a bite (You'll never hide, baby understand) (Snakebite drags you under) You`re gonna give me good fever (Snakebite, I'm your only man) (Snakebite is your lover) Sssssss...... You'll never hide, baby understand Snakebite drags you under (fade out)" The fourth song, 'Burning Our Bed', is a passable, acoustic led ballad Alice Cooper - Vocals Joe Satriani - Guitars Stef Burns - Guitars Hugh McDonald - Bass Mickey Curry - Drums John Webster - Keyboards The song writers include Al Pitrelli, who was also a member of Savatage (and later joined Megadeth) and also Steve West, from the band Danger Danger The video clip for this song is taken from the television show 'Aspel And Company'. It was broadcast in January 1992, and is the only time the song has ever been performed. Although the band are miming, the vocals from Alice are performed live 04/12 - Burning Our Bed (Cooper, Pitrelli, Pfeifer, West) "Baby, don't you shed a tear for me I wouldn't want to waste your time You talked a lot of trash and ya lied to me But babe, you never even tried Oh, oh, oh You can hold my heart for ransom But you'll never own my soul Baby, I might lose my mind Maybe I might lose my head But one thing I'll never do Is swallow my pride crawlin' back to you Baby, I'm burning our bed There used to be a time when you were everything My flame thru the night You got me hot Then you blew me out Like this match I'm about to light Oh, oh, oh You can tear my heart to pieces Left me standing in the cold Baby, I might lose my mind Maybe I might lose my head One thing I gotta do Is torch those sheets and pillows too Baby, I'm burning out bed Well, I used to think your were so kind How could I be so blind Oh, oh, oh I'm free But I'm alone Maybe, I might lose my mind (I might lose my mind) Maybe I might lose my head (might lose my head) One I swear to you You`re gonna feel the heat 'fore this night is through Baby, You`re burning me Sometimes a man can bleed Baby I'm burning our bed Mayby, I might lose my mind I don`t care Maybe I might lose my head Aw, wouldn`t be the first time... But one thing I'll never do Is swallow my pride crawlin' back to you Baby, I'm burning our bed"
