Roadie is pretty good fun imo. There's an amusing running joke where the music promoter constantly gets Meatloaf's name wrong. Entertaining movie with fun cameos.

Talking about Alice and Fangoria, in the December 1987 issue, John Carpenter talks about the casting in 'Prince Of Darkness': "Alice plays a crazed, psychotic street person. We ended up together at Wrestlemania III in Detroit this year. He was part of the match between Jake 'The Snake' Roberts and The Honkytonk Man. I was there as a loyal wrestling fan, which I've been for many years. One of my business partners, [co-executive producer] Shep Gordon, is Alice's manager, so I was able to get backstage passes. I hung out with Alice and the wrestlers. It was truly one of the greatest experiences of my life. There was a big party afterwards, and we chatted and became friends. I had thought of Alice as being an outrageous heavy metal rock star, but he's really a normal, wonderful person. He's such a great guy that I decided to cast him." Off topic, but Carpenter made 'They Live' the following year, which starred 'Rowdy' Roddy Piper. Presumably it was at this Wrestlemania event where they first met

That's disappointing I have just got a copy of the new 'Welcome To My Nightmare' DVD release. It's lucky it contains the television special because the actual concert seems to have taken a step backwards.  The picture doesn't seem as good as it did on the previous release, neither does it sound as loud. [As a comparison, I had the new release on volume 12, but that was much too loud for the original version, and I had to turn it down to 9 to get the same effect!]  Worse, however, is that it looks like the new version has been edited. Admittedly I have just been jumping thru it, but (although it is noted on the cover track listing) the song 'Department Of Youth' seems to be missing. There is the basic three-chord guitar riff (audio) over the visuals, but the song itself doesn't appear to be there This is possibly confirmed by a quick check of the run times: Original release - 83:41 New release - 78:53 This isn't the first time an Alice Cooper DVD release has been wrong. The cover to 'The Nightmare Returns' states that the disc has a run time of 170 mins, while it is actually closer to 75mins! Presumably, most Alice fans already have a copy of the 'WTMN' concert, and the big draw on this version is the television special - I know it was for me! However, I don't think I'll be getting rid of the original release in the near future Oh, it also comes with an 8 page booklet that contains information about the shows (expected), and also reproductions of the original ABC announcement about the television show and a letter from Vincent Price to 'Alice, Shep et al' and arachnophobes beware - the menu screen comes with animated spiders!

The US tour with Deep Purple ended on the 9th September in Cincinnati. The final Alice song of the evening, 'School's Out' featured guest appearances by Steve Morse (Deep Purple) and both Edgar Winter and Doug Rappoport (Edgar Winter Group) There is now a few weeks break, before the band move on to the 'Rock in Rio' festival on the 21st, then South America, Australasia and Europe Presumably this short 'holiday' will see some new songs being rehearsed and introduced into the upcoming sets Demdike@Cult Labs likes this.

Now it's been out for a number of weeks, it's time for a quick return to the track-by-track playlist Released after a 6 year gap, the long awaited 'Paranormal'' was Alice's 29th studio album. Unlike most of the previous releases, there was not a constant band on it - instead Alice used a number of guest musicians, some from his touring band, others specially drafted in for the recording sessions Paranormal produced by Bob Ezrin, Tommy Henriksen and Tommy Denander Producer - Richard Podolor The opening cut, 'Paranormal' is a cracking way to start an album. Beginning with a slow finger pluck on a guitar, the chords crash in, and another riff begins, and another, and another! During the 4 minute song, there must be about dozen different guitar riffs evident! There is a great vocal performance from the man The line up on the song consists of: Alice Cooper - Vocals Tommy Henriksen (Warlock, Hollywood Vampires, George Lynch) - Guitar Tommy Denander (Michael Jackson, Paul Stanley, Hollywood Vampires) - Guitar Larry Mullen Jr (U2) - Drums Roger Glover (Deep Purple) - Bass Bob Ezrin - Keyboards Jeremy Rubolino - Horns Would it fit into the live set? I'm not sure. I think it might be too atmospheric to be fully appreciated on stage 01/12 - Paranormal (Cooper, Denander, Glover, Ezrin) "I'm Condemned to the long endless night And I live in the absence of light And my Shadow has a life of it's own Watching you while you sleep all alone When the night is all cool skin and bones And you lie wrapped in sheets on your own There's a ring on your dead telephone Don't be scared when there's nobody home Like a spider web kiss on your face That familiar smell just a trace That's my scent that I left on your lace So you're never alone No, you're never alone I'm Condemned to the long endless night And I live in the absence of light"

The second song on the album is 'Dead Flies', a much more straightforward rock song. There are a number of nods to the past with this one, starting with the title which is an amalgamation of 'Dead Babies' and 'Halo Of Flies', both from the 1971 album 'Killer', and then there are the first two lines of the song which (to me) bear more than a passing resemblance to the opening lines of the song 'Generation Landslide' from the 'Billion Dollar Babies' album in 1973 ["Please clean the plate, dear, The Lord above can see ya, Don't you know people are starving in Korea?"] The line up on the song consists of: Alice Cooper - Vocals Tommy Henriksen (Warlock, Hollywood Vampires, George Lynch) - Guitar Tommy Denander (Michael Jackson, Paul Stanley, Hollywood Vampires) - Guitar Larry Mullen Jr (U2) - Drums Jimmie Lea Sloas (who usually works with Christian rock and Country and Western acts such as Garth Brooks, Keith Urban, LeAnn Rimes, Reba McEntire) - Bass Alice has spoken very highly of Larry Mullen Jr. He has stated that he was amazed when he came into the studio and asked for a copy of the lyrics. Alice says this is the first time a drummer has actually built his drum patterns around the words of a song, rather than coming out with a basic drum beat, or working around the bass player Would it fit into the live set? It could work as a 'throw-away' song. Despite the title, the third song, 'Fireball', is not a Deep Purple cover. However, it sounds very much like a classic rock tune from that era. It is a fast, pumping track that would make a great single choice. The only draw back for me, is the treatment that is given to the vocals - I don't really like it, but that is a minor complaint Dennis Dunaway from the original Alice Cooper Group was the co-writer of the song, and he appears playing bass The song was originally set to be included on the second Dennis Dunaway Project album, but was actually released on DDP guitarists Rick Tedesco's album 'A Light In The Attic' in 2011 instead. He has presented papers on his work at several conferences. [No, I don't understand what this means either, but it sounds impressive and comes from Wikipedia, so it must be true!] Would it fit into the live set? Very much so.
