Plastic Rock fans!!!!

I was a REAL metalhead back in those days, and we didn't buy singles because they were pointless, and who wanted to see a band miming on TOTP

True metalheads only got the albums when they were released!

No they weren't pointless. Bands like Maiden, Guns n' Roses, in fact almost everyone in the metal world put out great singles packages whether it be picture discs, poster packs, whatever. Besides it was a riot seeing Blackies arse when W.A.S.P. performed on TOTP scaring the Tiffany fans with their saw blade arm wear.

So saying true metalheads only got the albums is twaddle and you know it. I and all my friends loved collecting various versions of singles and 12"'s and i've still got them.

Back in the heyday of singles, b-sides were an actual thing and bands like Maiden, Metallica, Megadeth, GnR etc etc always had studio recorded songs which were exclusive to the single, only towards the end were these live versions of album tracks - so if you were a rock fan, you supported your favourites and bought the singles - getting them into the chart wasn't the motivation and let's be honest, Maiden scoring #1 with Daughter was a well planned marketing strategy designed to capitalise on the post-Christmas sales slump, and it worked!
