Episode 9 - the penultimate week of the show and it featured some great bands.

First up, DUMPY’S RUSTY NUTS. It doesn’t matter what kind of rock and metal fan you were in the 80s (oh, we had divisions in the genre even then), everyone loved DUMPY. His mix of humour with biker mythology entertained everyone, especially those of us within ‘hog riding’ (Dumpy joke there for the initiated) distance of London.

Saw them opening for Hawkwind

Here’s the Dumpster!

Next up and a bizarre inclusion for the heavy rocker crowd were glam goth hippy chart botherers DOCTOR AND THE MEDICS.

No footage of their ECT performance on YouTube so their performance of molecatcher and silver machine are the studio versions

Back to Heavy Metal rock’n’roll with ROCK GODDESS. Ah, all us testosterone filled metalheads (which I was back then) had a soft spot for at least one of them - for me it was the drummer!! They were actually a good credible hard rock band and made a couple of decent albums.

And last up were HEAVY PETTIN’. Many people dismissed them as a 'poor man's Def Leppard', but hey – they entered the A Song For Europe’ competition, so they can't be all bad!……

And so we get to the final episode of the show. First up were SHE. Never heard of them before, and never heard of them again!

TRASH weren’t much cop either. A Swedish band from before Scandinavian bands got good….

And then MAGNUM. Probably the most memorable thing from ECT’s farewell was Magnum’s attempt at a technical opening with Bob Catley strapped to the camera … but his mic wasn’t working! Another great performance though and if I recall MAGNUM replaced HANOI ROCKS who had decided to call it a day a week or so before the show.

And finally, German band WARLOCK closed the show. I loved this band, and saw them as support to Dio

And so we come to the last ever episode of ECT as shown on Channel 4 for 10 weeks during the spring of 1985. Whatever it’s plusses and minusses it brought heavy rock to a wide audience and gave exposure to many bands that would otherwise have not that much in history to remember them by.So ECT went out in the end with a bit of a whimper, but on the whole it was a great 10 weeks – and it got me started on almost 30 years (to date) of rock gig going – so it wasn’t all bad by any means

A lack of big names and a flawed format killed the show. Had the live footage mixed with rock videos with some of the big US hitters, then I think it could have come back for a second series.

But as it was, it is a fascinating peek into the (mainly British) rock scene of the mid 80s.

Great posts Suzi. Thanks for those.

Lisa Dominique - She brings back memories "Lovely Lisa, ain't none sweeter".

She was all over Kerrang! for a few years in the mid to late eighties.

She couldn't sing for toffee, but as a teenage boy i didn't give a shit.

I watched the live announcement by KISS that they would be touring with Def Leppard for the 40th Anniversary tour. No UK dates again at the moment. I don't know what's going on but the Monster Tour never came here last year. The last time KISS came here was in 2010 for the Sonic Boom Tour.
