nowt wrong with that, i was a huge black metalhead in my teens (TRVE KVLT), but to be honest labelling yourself in that way just tends to make you seem more like an elitist

I don't think you 'grow out' of loving Metal, once you love it you always love it, but as you grow up, like bleakshaun just said, you learn to appreciate more styles and don't label yourself as liking just one thing. However, identifying as a metalhead in your teens is a great way to not feel lonely and odd and instead feel like your part of something - at least it did for me! anyway... Roll on the DECADES tour

Maybe both. Maybe neither. Maybe I 'evolved' I remember a time in the mid 80's, when I had been on a big record buying spree, and I was sitting my my bedroom, going thru my haul, which included albums and CD's by the like of Bathory, Kreator, Napalm Death, Possessed etc. I clearly remember saying to one of my chums 'this stuff is great, but I can't really see myself listening to it when I am 21' Over the next few years, I found that the extreme bands I had been worshiping were being replaced by the bands I had previously been dismissing as 'not to my taste' - AC/DC, Zeppelin, Yes, ZZTop etc I had been thru my phase of listening to bands that were simplistic, raw and noisy but now I prefer to listen to rock bands that are more complex and thoughtful Don't get me wrong - I still occasionally dip into the world of 80's thrash on YouTube, and sometimes think 'that wasn't too bad', but on the whole, I have moved away from those times

I'm all for evolution which is what I was getting at in my reply up there ^^^ but the point I've highlighted here, that's a pretty broad brush you're tarring metal with. There is plenty of complex and thoughtful music in the heavier spectrum. Probably influenced by a lot of the bands which you like and have 'evolved into'. It's not all 'play as fast and loud as you can' like it was in the 80's.
