Had no idea that I’d be meeting this lunatic yesterday, if I’d known beforehand I’d have taken some CDs to get signed, instead I paid £14 for an 8” drum head. He was more than happy to chat with the fans, even responding when asked how he felt about a certain song being in the set by saying he insisted on it despite it being a “bastard of a song to play”. After he’d finished he went off in his chauffeur driven Mercedes, waving as he went and shouting “Toodaloo, see you tonight”

Also, just outside the arena where the crew were busy loading stuff in (managed to say hello to Steve Harris’s bass tech and occasional Maiden keyboard player Michael Kenney) this was parked up and then a little later paraded through the streets nearby, no mention of the fact it was £5.80 for a bottle of Trooper inside though!

I only had one, ridiculous price!
No idea why some of the pics are on their side, they didn’t look like that when I previewed the post

That's a brilliant shot of you and Nicko, Rik.

Can you PM the title of the song you were discussing please?

I hope Dave Boy doesn't do this with all the gigs he goes to. I bet he's a barrel of laughs with his music loving mates.

Ha. Only the really big ones.
I have NIGHTWISH in December and have no idea what songs they are playing on the DECADES tour.

Have you got the album?

That probably gives the game away a bit.

Nope. Having all the albums anyway, I never picked it up.
I remember a few tracks from the album when first released but have forgotten the rest.

Excellent review of Maiden at the MEN and good photos as well.

Reviewer says it was better than Muse and Queen for spectacle.

It's thought that this is the earliest (surviving) recording of Bruce Dickinson, reportedly recorded in 1976 (although there is no proof of this date). It was released as a single in 1980, but by that date he was vocalist in Samson

The band are called 'Speed', which Bruce was in when he was at college. The Deep Purple/Ian Gillan influences are obvious!

The other members of the band were Steve Jones (Drums), Paul White (Keyboards, Guitars), Jeff Moody (Drums) and Gary Edwards (Keyboards), although Jeff and Gary are only credited with being band members between the years 1980-1981, which again raise questions about the alleged recording date

'AA' Side - 'Man In The Street'

Not so glowing one in Birmingham however, BUT...the negativity was based around the venue and some of the staging,

SPOILER:
While the encore Run To The Hills was as memorable as ever, the night’s biggest shame was the sound – it swirled around so much it was barely possible to catch any of the words to the songs

But, backdrops apart, the set and lighting lacked impact with the band always seeming to be distant from their adoring fans when viewed from the seats at the side.

While the stage has been designed for the musicians to run around on, the lighting can’t always keep up so sometimes you are better off just standing still and putting on a show from the heart.

Even when drummer Nicko McBrain wasn’t lost behind camouflaged netting it seemed as if he was never part or the show – certainly the giant screens didn’t concentrate on him long enough for anyone to count his excessive number of drums.

rather than the band themselves or the songs that they played

Apparently, the 'party atmosphere' was bigger for Maiden than it was when local heroes Black Sabbath played their final concert at the same venue in 2017
