I went to see the Red Hot Chili Peppers at The Stadium of Light last night and they were superb. I last saw them at the Leeds Festival in 1999 and, like them, Flea really knows how to get the audience going but, unlike then, he kept his clothes on!

They had a great set list with most of the songs coming from Blood Sugar Sex Magik, Californication, By the Way and I'm with You, with a couple from Stadium Arcadium and their excellent cover of Stevie Wonder's Higher Ground.

If you didn't know John Frusciante wasn't on lead guitar, you wouldn't know otherwise as his replacement in the band fit in seamlessly and his little jam sessions with Flea (projected on the big screens) were examples of great guitar and bass playing.

The energy they have for guys who are nearly 50 is quite astounding, with Anthony Kiedis and Flee bounding around like men half their age, with the irrepressible bassist coming on for the encore by walking across the stage on his hands!

I saw then touring the By the Way album at the MEN arena. Unfortunately we were quite high up overlooking the stage and they really didn't do it for me, not sure why, everyone i went with loved it though.

I really like I'm With You, its a fine album.

It's a shame they seem to be overlooking One Hot Minute which is a really different style and personally my favourite album of theirs

It's one of my favourites was well and they don't need to placate John Frusciante any more by not playing songs from the Dave Navarro era, so maybe stuff like Aeroplane and My Friends will work its way into future playlists. That said, I read they (or, perhaps more accurately, Flea) performed Pea when they played at Knebworth.

I saw Pearl Jam at the MEN last week, amazing stuff! Went to the first night, which I think had the better set list, because they played both Black and Corduroy, which are my two favourite songs. Killer show.

Great list. It seems you were at The Stadium of Light last night too. For guys approaching their 50th birthdays, Kiedis, Flea and Smith can really rock and display great athleticism and stamina.

best thing was it was a spare of the moment thing tickets sold out and where £45 each and we got a pair of a bloke for £25 each because the match clashed and he wanted to watch it
next thing i got lined up is john bishop and jimmy car later in year not a concert as such

I've been out of the loop for years, I haven't seen a band for around 5 years and I really regret not pulling my finger out and going to some of the ATP events.

Anyway I think I can shamefully (actually who cares) say my first concert was the Barron Knights. I had no control over this of course as I would have been quite young. Although saying that, as a foetus I went with my mum (of course) to see Barry Manilow, does that count?

I'm struggling to remember, it has taken me an hour to get this far, this list is nowhere near the length it should be. I know a few years back I did make a list, I wrote it all down. I don't know what on earth I wrote it in as I don't have a "special" book that I would remember where it was. I can vaguely remember being in towns and cities, seeing bands and everything is a bit of a blur, it must have been good

Chas and Dave and The Cockney Rejects, I take my hat off to you. I'm presently coming to the conclusion that The Rejects "Greatest Hits Vol II" is one of the best lps ever to come out of Britain.
