I don't have many to add to what has already been mentioned, although I'm surprised that Psycho hasn't come up yet (unless it has and I didn't see it, in which case I'm surprised that I didn't see it) One of my favourite horror soundtracks is Cannibal Ferox, just for the ridiculous disco music. Tis great fun.

The music to the original version of King Kong by Max Steiner is still superb too. While Bernard Herrman did indeed do a great job with Psycho as well as The Seventh Voyage Of Sinbad,Jason & The Argonauts & Vertigo.Ron Goodwin's score for the excellent Frenzy was also a cracker.

I'd say The Sixth Sense by James Newton Howard. Fantastic soundtrack which suits the mood of the movie so well, and is goosebump-inducing in itself!

Most of the carpenter synth scores for his films are pretty good.I have a cd which collects all of them and various cues from other films, and ennio morricone's music to the thing. Also the wraith and trick or treat are personal faves, although those are song based from various artists. |

I really like the Philip Glass score from "Candyman". I forget who it's by but Tobe Hooper's "Funhouse" has a great score as well.

oooh my favourite subject, anyone who doesn't have, or has some of the below, check out the unfamilliar ones - they are gems... House by the Cemetary - Walter Rizzatti Eyeball - Bruno Nicolai Nightmare City - Stelvio Cipriani, disco meets Iron Maiden (sort of) Cannibal Holocaust - Riz Ortolani ***my favourite soundtrack ever*** Fabio Frizzi - The Beyond, and obvioulsy Zombi 2 Assault on Precinct 13 - John Carpenter (cold, minimal brilliance) Ennio Morricone - The Bird with the Crystal Plumage / anything else he's done Goblin - Tenebrae! The best song EVER - that crap Justice remix is an insult. Trunk Record's Dawn of the Dead - superb library music, essential. Popul Vuh's Dracula soundtrack (from the Werner Herzog film) Don't Look Now - Pino Donaggio, fragmented but brilliantly sad in places. My love for soundtracks matches the films - in many cases I actually prefer the soundtrack. The wealth of these out there is amazing, mostly Italian cinema has produced a shit load of brilliance. |

Carpenter's early efforts, Richard Band's gorgeous score to the otherwise negligible THE ALCHEMIST, I Libra's haunting SHOCK score, Pino Donaggio's for CRAWLSPACE and, aside from horror, the De Angelis BIG RACKET funkfest is a cracker.
