A lot of John Carpenter's soundtracks are high up there. Especially of course 'Halloween' and there is also 'Assualt on Precint 13' among others. I love most of Ennio Morricone's scores for spaghetti westerns as well.

Tough one but seeing as I've just watched it, Profondo Rosso by Goblin, closely followed by anything by Morricone
