Am not happy with 88Films over this and the way they ignored my question and appear to be treating everyone with complete contempt regarding this

Apparently it's a music rights issue as the US release has been delayed until September as well.

Trashforcash 2nd July 2022 04:03 PM

That's all they had to say. I couldn't care less about the film, but just annoyed that 88 can be bothered to communicate with their customers.

Yep, you have some gold dust there, Reaps.

Bit of a catch-22 though. You could flog it in a couple of weeks knowing it's a rarity and get your money back and more knowing it'll be re-released in Sept. :woot:

On the other hand, flog it and make a few quid... and then it's decided it's too much of a problem to release due to the rights issue so it's shelved for good. :nono: :whip:

The note I (eventually) got from Amazon yesterday in the afternoon:

If you see a charge for the cancelled item, we will refund you within 1-2 business days. If you are still interested in purchasing this item, it may be available from other sellers"

What did you expect Amazon to do in this case? There's nothing else they could have done once it became clear stock wasn't being delivered.

It's 88 Films who should have apologised / given reasons etc.

I don't hold Amazon responsible in any way at all, although I don''t understand why they didn't cancel my order, and inform me that they had done this, earlier than the day the item was supposed to be delivered

I *do* hold 88Films responsible in every way. *They* could / should have made a public announcement on social media platforms are the very least instead of putting a small note on the actual order page if their own website. I also think that they could have taken time to reply to my query about the release, even if was just a standard "very sorry, but this release has been delayed. We hope you continue to support us" response

Stephen@Cult Labs 3rd July 2022 08:44 PM

Hasn't Severin's release of Mardi Gras Massacre been delayed too?

The Reaper Man@Cult Labs 5th July 2022 11:43 AM

It’ been pulled as well, but it was shipped direct from them before this shit happened.

Trashforcash 11th July 2022 05:36 AM

Also, has anyone read the plot description on their copy of The Seventh Curse? It essentially repeats the same sentance about a permanent treatment twice! Quality Control guys. The little things matter. Its almost as annoying as Arrow's Vengence Trails spine picture screw up.

Hitcher in the Dark, plunges us into the murky and nightmarish world of matriarch-obsessed serial killer Mark Glazer (Joe Balogh). Spending his evenings raping and murdering innocent female victims, he eventually comes across Daniella who bears a striking resemblance to his dead mother.

Produced by legendary schlockmeister general Joe D’Amato and following in the bloody footsteps of Hatchett for the Honeymoon (1970), Maniac (1980) or Lenzi’s earlier work, Hitcher in the Dark takes us to hell and back in a seedily unpleasant, grisly Italian psychodrama."

When widow Birdy, joins a fundamentalist sect called The Brethren, she soon finds herself at the centre of a fire and brimstone existence where sin is dealt with in violent rather than spiritual terms.

Riffing on previous work like Psycho (1960) and more importantly Peeping Tom (1960), The Fiend taps into the distorted mind-set of an unhinged killer providing a bleak, yet sensationalised take on the British thriller. Starring Patrick Magee (Masque of the Red Death, The Skull, Tales from the Crypt), The Fiend is a must for all lovers of cult horror."

Directed by Italian legend Umberto Lenzi, (So Sweet, So Perverse, The Cynic, the Rat and the Fist, Cannibal Ferox) Knife of Ice (1972) is a quintessential piece of early 70s Gialli creepiness. Former musician Asian Hawk (Chan) becomes embroiled in a dangerous quest to seek out the last three parts of lost treasure the Armour of God, in order to save his ex-band mate’s girlfriend from the clutches of a ruthless cult.

When Catherine (Jade Leung), a mentally disturbed young woman, is detained by the police after accidentally killing a truck driver, she finds herself part of a covert training system. Programmed as an assassin, having learned a host of new deadly skills, she becomes a lethal government weapon, codenamed Black Cat.

Director Steven Shin (Brotherhood, Easy Money, Black Cat 2), had initially intended to make a straight-up remake of Luc Besson’s La Femme Nikita (1990) but when Disney bought out the rights he was forced to rethink. His solution was Black Cat, a slick, action-packed gun-toting thrill ride."

Amazon have just emailed me to say Mardi Gras is cancelled, not delayed. Oh well.

Rob4 25th July 2022 07:28 PM

Knife of Ice is available in the Lenzi/Baker boxset from Severin. It's a superb set with 4 movies. During a Severin sale I think it would be more cost effective to import it rather than collect them one at a time from 88 (assuming they have the rights to all 4?).

An interesting snippet over on the Hammer Bluray FB page from Michael Brooke is that 88 have the rights to the Pete Walker films. Apologies if this is old news.

The Reaper Man@Cult Labs 25th July 2022 07:32 PM

Bought HITCHER,KNIFE and BRETHERN today!

I used to buy direct from 88 but since their reply to me about not being able to log in to my account was 'Just set up another account' when I had a load of bonus points was bullshit.

I always hoped there'd be a box set with The Black Torment and Incense for the Damned but sadly that's not going to happen. Hartford-Davis films are just too spread out betwen companies especially when you consider Indicator have Corruption and Screenbound have The Smashing Bird I Used to Know.

It all seemed so ripe for a Powerhouse box set.

The Reaper Man@Cult Labs 26th July 2022 05:49 PM

Have you not noticed a lot of SB titles are oop?

I reckon a lot of those licenses are up......

It wouldn't surprise me if they let them go OOP after the change from Odeon to Screenbound so they can eventually release them all in shiny new Blu-ray sets.

As with The Sorcerers and Castle of the Living Dead plus their own boutique sets such as Virgin Witch.

Plus they are also licensing films out as they did with the Warren films to Powerhouse and the Walker's to 88.

The Reaper Man@Cult Labs 26th July 2022 06:15 PM

Has 88 hinted at a Walker set?

I thought it was all but announced a few months ago when Kim Newman did commentaries for them all for 88's extras.

Does The Fiend say it is under license from Screenbound on the back cover. I'd be surprised if it didn't.

I'll have a look.
Killer's Moon is probably the same.

Killer's Moon is probably the same print as the Screenbound Blu which i bought for £3 in the recent sale. It's a good print of a fairly obscure film when it comes to actual film elements.

No idea if that's the same as the one Redemption have, probably is.
