It was Michael Brooke who said 88 had the rights to the Walker films. 88 hasn't said anything as far as I know.

Kim Newman said he was doing an audio commentary for The Black Torment for Indicator but that was several years ago now. For some reason it was assumed it would be for a Hartford-Davis set. As Corruption was released as a standalone and The Fiend released by 88 it looks like that has fallen through or Newman got it wrong in the first place.

I think The Black Torment must have fallen through which is a pity as it's a fave of mine.. Although as confirmed earlier this year Kim Newman has done commentaries for the Walker films for 88 Films.

I didn't know KN had confirmed the Walker films. Having him involved mitigates my disappointment that Indicator didn't get these titles. Hope they are also fresh scans from the negatives and they are released in good quality boxsets rather than dripping out individually.

I got the Vinegar Syndrome set a few weeks ago. I ordered the cheaper version but they sent me the one with the outer slip box. I ain't gonna complain. That set is beautiful and I'm looking forward to the 88 release.

I haven't seen them, but this thread on bluray.com has the three trailers and a bit of a description. Basically they are not Jackie Chan slapstick fighting style, but proper Hong Kong crime films.

Forgot the link lol... https://forum.blu-ray.com/showpost.p...&postcount=151

Apparently 'Maniac' is #50 in the slasher series!

Demdike@Cult Labs 19th August 2022 03:46 PM

A Candle for the Devil as well. Nice.

The Odeon dvd looked really poor when it was first released.

Demdike@Cult Labs 19th August 2022 03:50 PM

88 are also releasing Ladies Who Do.

Quite a bizarre one for them. A black and white British comedy from the sixties featuring Jon Pertwee and Robert Morley. Must be part of a job lot from Screenbound.

nicholasrope 19th August 2022 05:10 PM

Wonder if Ebola Syndrome has been submitted to the BBFC yet and will it suffer like Gestapo's Last Orgy?

Definitely interested in Vigilante and interested in the extras for Cannibal Holocaust, I know there's a Commentary.

This looks like a strong line up

It's great that Maniac finally gets past the UK censors... but jeez... that artwork is a nasty in itself... and not in a good way :nono:

Thankfully Maniac will have reversible artwork.

I have the superb BU 4K Edition, but I'll be buying this as a) I don't have a blu ray of it now,and b)It's good to see the brilliant Slashers Classics collection back.

I think that Cannibal Holocaust will all depend on the extras, pretty sure we all have a version of the Film we're happy with.

Also I believe that the 88 Films would be the 4th different UK distributor to release the Film?

Vipco
Black House (I think that's who they were)
Shameless
88 Films

There's a few with 3 like Zombie Flesh Eaters, Beyond, Burning...etc.

TBH, I can see ZFE and/or Burning getting picked up by Someone like 88 or Shameless

VIPCO - First release [cut by 5 minutes, 44 seconds]
VIPCO - 25th Anniversary Release (Double Disc with 'House On The End Of The Park' on the second disc) [as above]

Blu-Ray:
Shameless [cut by 15 seconds. Also available in 'Animal Cruelty free version'. However, some footage has been substituted with reaction shots of the actors]

88Films - Cut status currently unknown

The 88 Films one has been on the BBFC website since June, it says cut for animal cruelty due to legal reason etc... they no longer state how long cuts last for, just a simple yes or no for 'is the work cut'

I would imagine it's the same cuts as the previous time, which is the knife killing of the Muskrat, roughly 15 seconds.

Yeah typical Vipco, say it's a Anniversary release and just throw in HOTEOTP LOL.

The other distributer was Black Horse, found the cover (It was driving me nuts)

There's a 20 minute interview with Allan Bryce on the After Death Blu-ray about VIPCO which is quite good and the way they basically did everything wrong when dvd became the format of choice.

I like the Hysteria Continues commentaries as they are usually quite informative and interesting, and well delivered by the various members, particularly Justin Kerswell doing the lead presenter and moderator role.

That probably tips the balance in favour of a purchase for me.

Ebola and Vigilante, possible Cannibal Holocaust, if the Extras are good.

Perfectly happy with the Shameless DVD for the actual Film
