Director Alan Birkinshaw brings us an ‘endless night of terror’ in his bloody late seventies horror Killer’s Moon. When a school outing of teenage girls arrives at their destination in the Lake District, they find themselves subjected to the murderous designs of four escaped mental patients who believe they are trapped in a dream.

Released the same year as Carpenter’s Halloween (1978), and very much in the vein of movies by Pete Walker and Norman J Warren, Killer’s Moon delivers a very British take on the burgeoning slasher phenomenon providing a hallucinogenic violent trip into a countryside hell. Often descried as one of the most tasteless UK features ever made, it drips with 80s style gore and a twisted form of home grown folk-horror.

Although he had previously featured in BREAKER, BREAKER, GOOD GUYS WEAR BLACK is generally considered the breakthrough movie of legendary screen fight man Chuck Norris. Not only did it kick start his career, it also showed the world that America could produce a home-grown run of martial arts movies in the wake of successful Hong Kong imports from studios like the mighty Shaw Brothers.

When an elite military outfit known as the Black Tigers is sent into a Vietnam death trap, only Major T Booker (Norris) and four other men stay alive. Five years later and back in America, Booker learns of a plot to kill all remaining members of the botched rescue mission and finds himself plunged into a dangerous game of survival.

Fast, furious and rammed with Norris’s custom brand of physical action skills, this beautifully rendered reissue of GOOD GUYS WEAR BLACK is a glorious introduction to the actor’s work and a must for all collectors.

I think I'll pass on Killer's Moon as I have the Redemption Blu-ray release with the commentary by Alan Birkinshaw and Joanne Good and the interviews with each of them, probably the same interviews as on the 88 Films release.

In my opinion, it has better artwork as well!

It does, yes.

I bought the Screenbound release in the recent sale and although it has no extras other than trailers the fact it only cost £3 means it was good value for money.

To help his friend to give up a crippling cocaine addiction, Dr Watson (Robert Duvall) introduces world-famous detective Sherlock Holmes to psychiatrist Sigmund Freud. But while under treatment, Holmes embroils himself in a kidnap case and Freud discovers a disturbing secret in his patient’s subconscious.

As with the later Murder by Decree (1979), The Seven-Per-Cent Solution (1977) places Holmes in an adventure with real-life characters. With plenty of twists and turns and some nifty detective work, the ingenious intertwining of the fictional with reality makes for a fascinating romp and a highly original take on Arthur Conan Doyle’s greatest creation.

In a Psycho (1960) inspired thriller from Spanish director Eugenio Martino (Horror Express), Laura Barkley (Judy Geeson) is dragged into a mystery when she arrives at a remote hotel to find her sister missing. Pretty soon more guests, who fall foul of the hoteliers and their draconian religious judgements, find themselves on the missing persons list and the plot moves quickly into a horror of murderous design.

A Candle for the Devil AKA It Happened at Nightmare Inn, is a gruesomely satisfying early 70s piece of exploitation cinema, bristling with dark tension and Giallo-style overtones.

A follow up of sorts to his earlier film, the seminal Caliber 9 (1972), Blood and Diamonds (1977) blasts its way into familiar poliziotteschi territory, leaving scars, bullets and tire tracks in its bloody wake.

I've no idea what possessed Richard and James to think hiring Bey Logan to provide supplementary material for their Hong Kong films was a good idea.

will graham 14th October 2022 09:11 PM

Apparently theyve removed all special features that bay logan had done for supercop after online backlash.
Heard over at blu-rage the mods started deleting peoples justified comments about not being happy about them rehiring bey logan.

For any who are thinking "cancel culture" should read Bey's public statement on his accusations of sexual assault and harassment. It's as bad as prince Andrew's interview.

I adored bey old commentary track for hong kong legends and there as far as I'm aware hasnt been proof of him acting as a pimp for Weinstein with hong kong actresses. but bey himself let alone anyone else made him seem very guilty of sexual assault and harassment.
Thought after the trouble shout had with the jeepers creepers release 88 would have known better.

Yeah, I used to love Logan. His commentaries were magnificent. I even used to keep an online correspondence with him during college. He would point me towards the most appropriate materials for research when researching Hong Kong cinema for my essays.

When the news broke, I was repulsed that I could hold such a person in high esteem.

As for Jeepers Creepers, I look at it like this. Victor Salva committed an atrocity, but he served time for it, and while he isn't upfront about it (which I can understand), he doesn't deny it. Nor have I read any interviews with him where he tried to pass the blame. What I'm saying is, when it comes to Salva, we have to decide if we feel okay about giving our money to a man who served time for child sex offences.

I also used to enjoy listening to Logan's commentaries on the Hong Kong Legends DVDs. However, there is no way I could now, in good conscience, buy anything with his name on it.

I'm glad Richard and James have responded to the blowback and U-turned on this, quite frankly, stupid decision.

  • Royal Warriors
  • Yes, Madam!
  • ITLOD III
  • ITLOD IV

Pre-orders will go live shortly and full specs announced soon. But here is a peek at some of the art. Reverse sleeves, Booklet and poster art unveiled soon

Four classic police stories from the Golden Age of Hong Kong action, where the women kick ass as hard as any man. Michelle Yeoh and then Cynthia Kahn star as the toughest cops on the streets, using fists, feet and guns to take down triads, thieves and international criminals

Easily the equal of any American action movies from the same era, the In the Line of Duty series are enduring proof of the genius – and recklessness – of Hong Kong filmmakers. 88 Films are proud to do their bit for law and order, with beautiful restorations of these four landmark movies"

This is a bit confusing

According to Amazon, the release date has been changed to December 5, BUT... I cannot find any mention of the film at all on the 88Films site

It's also strange that there has still not been any information about what extra features the film will contain

'Hell Of The Living Dead' [AKA Zombie Creeping Flesh] (1980) - Uncut 4KUHD + BLURAY pre-order available from Amazon UK - £25:00

Release date: January 25

"You can't beat an Italian zombie movie and here's one of the best, looking yuckier than ever in this sensational 4K UHD presentation. There's been a nasty outbreak of the living dead in Papua New Guinea and it's up to an intrepid reporter (Margit Evelyn Newton), her cameraman (Gaby Renom) and an on-hand squad of commandoes to find out why – and to try and stop it. There are disgusting special effects, some unexpected adversaries (a zombie rat, a zombie child and a zombie granny!) plus head-shots galore: truly, a film with something for everyone. Co-written by Claudio Fragrasso (inspired auteur of Troll 2) and directed by exploitation ace Bruno Mattei (Rats Night of Terror; Violence in a Woman's Prison), 88 Films are proud to present this classic of family entertainment full-blooded shocker in all its gory glory!"

'The Pete Walker Heritage Collection' - Deluxe Collector's Edition Blu-ray pre-order available from Amazon UK - £80:00

Release date: February 20

Films contained:
  • The Big Switch
  • For Men Only
  • Man of Violence
  • Home BEfore Midnight
  • School For Sex
  • Cool it, Carol!

"Years before he became revered as the ‘Gentleman of British Horror’, prolific filmmaker Pete Walker started his cinema career making hugely popular sexploitation movies and gangland thrillers. Walker’s films didn’t shy away from controversial subjects – prostitution, underage sex, pornography and the criminal underworld – and proved irresistible to audiences on both sides of the Atlantic. ‘X’-rated productions like School for Sex (which played solidly in London’s West End for over a year) and the bloodthirsty Man of Violence (a forerunner of Get Carter) display the exceptional early talents of Britain’s most celebrated and commercially successful director of his generation. Now for the very first time, Walker’s finest non-horror movies are brought together for this spectacular new box-set, starring a host of famous faces: Robin Askwith (Confessions of a Window Cleaner), Francoise Pascal (Mind Your Language), James Aubrey (Bouquet of Barbed Wire), David Kernan (Carry On Abroad) and Luan Peter (Hammer’s Lust for a Vampire). The Pete Walker Heritage Collection collects For Men Only (1967), School for Sex (1968), The Big Switch (1968), Man of Violence (1970), Cool It Carol! (1970) and Home Before Midnight (1978), all presented here in brand new HD restorations, and featuring an arresting array of exclusive extras, including brand-new interviews with Walker himself."
