I, for one, hope to hell 88 never pick up Mountain, Eaten Alive or Jungle Holocaust. Leave these films to companies that can actually put out full uncut releases, not hacked to bits censored versions. And yes, I know it's not up to 88 Films themselves, it's the anarchic, open to interpretation, ridiculous "laws" of the country. All the more reason to never touch them.

Right about now some bugger always touts out the line, "I don't NEED to see some poor defenceless animal killed for my viewing pleasure!" Insinuating that whoever does want the full uncut film is some sexual deviant who pleasures themselves while watching a turtle get its head chopped off. Seriously, I get it, you are obviously a higher evolved, moral upstanding decent person, far better than me, wanking furiously to Africa Addio.

88 are doing sterling work but stick to films you can put out in uncut versions. Most cult film collectors I know want full versions, nearly every release the question is asked ad infinitum by fan after fan, Is it Uncut? Censored films hurt sales and reputation. There are plenty of films out there that would sail past our censorship board now, concentrate on them.[/I]

Fully agree...

The cannibal titles will never get uncut releases so use the money on stuff not previously released or currently unavailable.

My thoughts exactly. If I had a BD/DVD releasing company specialising in cult titles then I, personally, would concentrate on putting out films that I knew would get past the BBFC uncut. As a fan buying these films I wouldn't buy a censored UK version when an uncut import is only a mouse click away. I would, however, rather support home grown companies when buying uncut titles like Burial Ground, Nightmares in a Damaged Brain, Zombi Holocaust, etc.

As one of those people who doesn't need to see "some poor defenceless animal killed for my viewing pleasure", I feel some of those cannibal films were better without the animal violence, but also don't insinuate I am any more evolved, decent, or better in any other way, than someone who would rather see them in the the regional, uncut, versions.

In the end, it's personal preference, and not watching animals being tortured and killed for entertainment is my preference.

As far as I can see, the last time it was submitted was 2002 for the Vipco release, and the BBFC demanded 1:54 seconds of cuts for the 18 certificate, specifically:

The BBFC commented: Cuts required to sexual and sexualised violence:
  • forcible removal of woman's underwear and subsequent shots of full nudity
  • sight of woman's breast being clawed and wounded with resulting flow of blood and collection of blood in a bowl
  • sight of woman's breast being exposed, her breast being kissed, her loin cloth being undone, her pubic hair being touched and her positive response to a sexual assault
  • sight of man forcibly tearing open a woman's shirt, revealing her breasts and struggling with her).
  • Further cuts to sight of cocks attacking each other during a cockfight.

Given how much has changed in the last 14 years at Soho Square and the films which have included sexualised violence and passed uncut, the only problem would be the cockfight. If 88 Films have some evidence that it was documented and not staged for the film (as cockfighting was quite popular in Thailand at the time, that was probably the case for the one in Man from Deep River, but hey ho), there shouldn't be any problem with that either. If, however, the examiners insist on a couple of cuts to the cockfight, it will be hard to describe it as completely uncut, but it's as close to it ever will be as long as the Cinematograph (Animals) Act is on the statute books.

If they release it cut I for one will ask for a refund. I haven't pledged for a cut release.

Got The Couch Trip today. 88 made the right choice (in my opinion) moving the logo to the bottom.
