Thing is there's still so many films from mgm library that have been released in the States but yet to get released over here (ie leviathan). So why are so many companies rereleasing so many titles that rivals released not that long ago?

Curious but why not Dave?

I'm all for supporting British companies but not when nearly every release is a consistent downgrade on previously available releases. Killer Klowns is a perfect example: the 2nd edition Arrow disc (the version I own) had a 4k restoration and was stacked with extras along with a booklet. This pales in comparison. Most of what they've been churning out lately already have better versions available from Shout Factory. Like Shameless, they're happy to put out substandard releases for a quick cash grab at minimal expense to themselves which shows lack of respect to the films and the fans. I may sound harsh but it is my honest opinion.

I've never understood it's popularity? Apart from maybe a couple of mildly amusing moments it's a total dud.

... on the other hand my son thought it was great, although he was 10 when I played for him...

I thought 'Killer Klowns' was a fun, brainless movie

It's as stupid as it's title suggests it is... and I mean this as a recommendation

No thats perfectly fair mate. As I said it was just curiosity. To some degree I'm glad at least someone is putting these titles out. I'd guess in certain cases it's where other labels, such as Second Sight or Arrow have lost licenses but own a number of the extras. I suppose it depends on the film, In the case of Joe Dantes Pirhana for instance the Second Sight disc went OOP and Final Cut put it out, as you say in a vastly inferior version. I'd missed out on the Second Sight release but was very reluctant to get the Final Cut one. Glad I held off as the OOP disc turned up in Cex at a very reasonable price.

It's good that these films are being made available, I agree. When I see what small independent companies like Second Sight, Radiance, Indicator, 88 Films, Eureka and others are doing and how that contrasts with Final Cut's output in 2024 it's easy to see the lack of thought and dedication with the latter. Glad you got sorted with the SS disc of Piranha in the end. There's nothing worse than having to settle for an inferior release when better versions were previously available.

There are a few Second Sight discs now OOP that were cheap as chips on Amazon a few years back and I didn't grab them. I've managed to pick up Pirhana and recently Enemy Mine for reasonable prices. The Ninth Configuration is another I want that's now OOP, if it turns up at a very good price I will get it, though it will be a blind buy so it will have to be a very sensible price.

Yeah I think the last release of final cut's that had real effort was tobe hoopers Invaders From Mars remake. Even had different special features from the shout factory release too.
But otherwise it's always a disappointment when a film I like gets released by final cut. Jesus even 101 films do a better job.
