This low-budget prelude to Landis' brilliant career which includes ANIMAL HOUSE, THE BLUES BROTHERS, and AN AMERICAN WEREWOLF IN LONDON, SCHLOCK is an ingenious monster comedy filled with wild movie references and absurd gags, with the then 22-year-old filmmaker paying respect to some of his favorite films like KING KONG, 2001, THE BLOB, and FRANKENSTEIN. I noticed that Toetag Pictures DVD's seem to be going for ridiculous money again. They peaked about 5 years ago with stupid prices being asked....and gotten, before trailing off to more reasonable prices a year or two ago. So I went to Fred's page and lo and behold, nothing up for sale, all gone, even the new AU Trilogy on BD. If you're thinking of getting rid of any, now might be the right time!

Talking of bootleg/grey market outfits, I had a soft spot for Beverly Wilshire. Nasty generic looking covers, no photos from the film and a synopsis on the back cover written by someone with English as a second language, who didn't seem to have watched the film. Nevertheless, the first company to put out many Mexican horror obscurities, Santo films, etc. in very watchable condition. |

Vintage Finnish vampire/witch movie The White Reindeer is available in and English friendly version from VLMedia in a very pricey edition. Wish a UK company such as Second Run would pick it up. https://www.amazon.co.uk/Valkoinen-R.../dp/B01MU4P9O6 Last edited by Rob4; 15th May 2018 at 03:03 PM. |
