All of those German/Austrian hardbox titles are pricey, Dimis; irrelevant of transfer, extras, or even if the film is cut. They are more aimed at collectors. Although, the NEW release of Iguana was (and still is to my knowledge) the only English language friendly release of the film on DVD worldwide.

Cool thread. It seemed to be another Vipco thread during the first few pages. The Paramount UK dvd of Black Rain has an awful transfer. The Blu is supposedly fine though. The Dead of Night release of eighties slasher Offerings is a very tired vhs print, nearly unwatchable during night times sequences. The John Wayne western Mclintock has many terrible releases as far as picture quality goes. However the Paramount collectors edition is absolutely stunning quality. |

The rental DVD edition of Burton's DARK SHADOWS has the cheapest-looking consumer DVD authoring software-looking menus:

As far as i'm aware Prom Night has never had a nice looking print on dvd. The region 1 release from Platinum is fairly poor. Shite film though, so i wouldn't bother with a better version anyway. |

Name 'em and shame 'em... Some discs that come to mind - a Greek DVD of Ride in the Whirlwind which had soupy murkey VHS quality, the first UK DVD of Eraserhead, which was a contrast mess (admittedly a difficult film to transfer) and EC's Ultra-bit disaster of House by the Cemetary which among its crimes had those 2-tone 2.35 bars - half the bar a lighter shade than the other (which is something that belongs in the Makes You Go Bananas thread)...

Can't say I've ever noticed myself, mind you I'm not a massive fan of the film so I bet I've only watched my EC copy once before sealing it back up in the bag it came in

That's the one Rik, I just checked my copy now and it's no. 1669. Yeah, the contrast on this disc is set way too high, the whole thing looks unnatural. I dunno if EC ever corrected the transfer or recalled the disc - anyway, it's obselete in these Blu days but one to avoid...
