I say BD, you say say DVD, let's call the whole thing off!

While I appreciate original art as much as anyone, that was designed for a quad and to me it looks really overly cluttered in this format, especially with that stupid little DVD/BD blurb in the middle. In a sense it's only based on original art and the reformatting completely changes its composition as its designed to allow space for the huge title going across the middle. Just my two cents worth. I much prefer how Warner recomposed it on the DVD. They stuck the title at the top and it looks a lot more striking.
I must admit that although it's not perfect, I do prefer this Curse Of Frankenstein cover to the Plague Of The Zombies / Reptile Optimum BDs.

The original Hammer quad posters were amazing and cannot be fitted correctly onto a dvd cover, but the House Of Hammer magazine showed it can be done, by occasionally featuring portrait style Hammer posters on its back page, such as this one for Quatermass II:

Since no one answered in the last thread I thought I'd try my luck here. Going to soon pick up the Ultimate Hammer DVD collection and was wondering who had it and what they thought.

It's a great 'starters set' - I think you can pick it up for about £25 and for that price is can't really be beaten. It is far from definitive, of course. But there are some crackers in there - 'Quatermass & The Pit', 'The Nanny', 'She', 'Straight On Til Morning', 'The Devil Rides Out', 'Plague Of The Zombies', 'Dracula Prince of Darkness' 'Rasputin The Mad Monk' and only a few out and out duds 'Horror of Frankenstein', 'Vengence of She'.

Go and get it now!

If you're talking about the 21 disc box, it's an excellent set which really shows off the variety of films put out by Hammer, from the Dracula and Mummy films to things like She and One Million Years B.C.

It is really handsomely packaged and will leave you wanting to watch and probably buy the omissions.

Artwork for The Devil Rides Out Blu has been added to the Amazon listing:

The Devil Rides Out (Blu-ray + DVD) [1968]: Amazon.co.uk: Film & TV

Looks very nice, hopefully it will be used on the actual release!

Yeah I like it, though why didn't they make Charles Grey bigger and move him up to fill in that whacking great black space top left . . .

It is strange and it does kind of make it seem emptier when you compare it to the covers for the other releases. Hopefully they'll fix it on the final product.

They are still sticking mostly with the Hammer period the critics tell us to like, but I'm itching for 70s Hammer goodness myself.
