The new Arrow interview in the Film4 Frightfest magazine, a 4 page spread you can read online now, confirmed the Cronenberg films were licensed from Lionsgate. That leaves open many interesting doors...

How flithy is Immoral Tales as a matter of interest?

It depends on how you define "filthy" - and also on whether you're watching the four or five-episode version. The four-episode version (i.e. the more familiar one) is strictly softcore (although it often feels stronger than that, thanks to the force of Borowczyk's erotic imagination), but the five-episode version features the short film that ultimately became the dream sequence of The Beast. That isn't "hardcore" in the literal sense of the term (in that it doesn't feature actual sexual intercourse at any point), but given that this features a man in a bear costume with a gigantic erection that at several points seems hell-bent on doing regular impressions of the Old Faithful geyser, this might be a distinction that's lost on some people. And the supporting short A Private Collection still has to be censored for legal reasons - and even though we had to black out a few seconds of genuine bestiality, what's left was still enough to make me concerned that the BBFC might slap an R18 on it: after all, they rejected it outright back in the 1970s. (Fortunately, they didn't.) |

Thanks for that Michael, so Immoral Tales is pretty much arthouse adult. Which from past experience is usually not very erotic, still I'll be renting the film just to see what all the fuss is about.

You see that 'wink face'? I've ALWAYS been one of Arrow's biggest supporters, even when their transfers were shite. The amount of abuse I've taken on here for defending them is second to none. Full scale brawls and bannings, tit for tat nastiness via pm's into the wee small hours. Long before you were involved with them Michael. So thanks for the lengthy explanation but come down off the high horse eh? Like Stephen,I'm a bit pissed at forking out up front only to be delayed. If ANYONE knows that Arrow will come up with the goods eventually,it's me.
