Maybe it's Zavvi that have ruined them for me the last few I got from them were terrible Karate Kid and Star Wars are two that spring to mind straight away. I love most of my steelbooks but looking at them here now you and B_E are spot on all the shit ones are Zavvi exclusives.

I picked up the Cronenberg shorts from HMV, they had about five copies, pretty shoddy that Arrow still hasn't sent it out.

I had the same issue with Fox and His Friends, I cancelled the order after I got fed up of seeing it HMV every time I went in. They didn't respond to any of my requests of a stock update either.
