And?

The Phantasm films aren't about flashy special effects. And stop putting down my beloved Full Moon.

I also enjoy the odd Full Moon production. I have quite a lot in my collection. I think i've bought ten + from 88's website this year.

What i'm trying to say is.

When you've got this -

why not use it...a lot?

It's horror. Exploit us for pity's sake.

Sometimes it is better to underuse something rather than overuse it. That way the threat is there and it can be all about suggestion and atmosphere rather than a montage of death.

That said, sometimes a film which is little more than a montage of death is extremely entertaining and exactly what you want to watch.
keirarts, VeZius and Graeme73 like this.

I think with Phantasm it was a case of diminshing budgets.

I think 4 is massively underrated. I like most of them though ( and full moon stuff!) my only gripe was the effects with part 5.

Perhaps I should give the Phantasm films another chance, I've only seen the first one and half of the second one (I turned it off because I was bored), I remember liking the first one back in the VHS days, but on a more recent rewatch on Netflix (about 4 years ago I think), I didn't think much of it.
I certainly won't be buying the Arrow set, unless my feelings change after giving them another try

Yeah i also think they are very over hyped. I'm really not sure why they have such a cult following.

Watch them on DVD. If you don't like them then you've saved a bunch of money. Its one of those franchises that divides people. I like them but then I like the leprechaun films so what the f*** do I know!
