Actually that's nonsense as i like the majority of historicals. The Massacre is tremendously bleak.

We certainly don't get the sort of quality historicals like The Smugglers or The Massacre today in Doctor Who. The Unquiet Dead and The Shakespeare Code were enjoyable stories, but I would like something like what was delivered as stories in the 1960's. John Lucarotti was responsible for three of my favourite historical Dr Who stories. Unfortunately I think today's short attention span viewing public prefer historical stories at the bottom of the pile. There's nothing more satisfying than watching a well written and performed historical romp done the Doctor Who way.

Totally agree. Have you read Lucarotti's own Target novelizations? Quite different from what is on screen. The Myth Makers is worth seeking out.

Yes. I did read The Myth Makers. There's no denying that he had a way of delivering a good, solid historical story. I did like the fact that in the novel Cotton had a linking narration from Homer Dem. Obviously that could of been achieved in the television version with some intresting effect. A bit different. Cotton did a good job on the original TV story too. Just a flipping shame it's completely missing from the BBC.

Some of the finest stories in Dr Who's history will probably never return fully complete.

Makes me want to hit the Jack Daniels pretty sharpish!

Class ratings: Doctor Who spin-off loses half its audience on BBC One

I tried to watch this on BBC1 and, admittedly it was late and I was tired, but I gave up on the first episode after about 30 minutes

It was painful

I recorded both episodes tho, and will try again at a later date

This is the first time in history I have voluntarily turned off a programme that is connected with 'Doctor Who'

The latest Doctor Who magazine is excellent for all fans of the 70's series.

There's a massive interview with Terrence Dicks, in fact every feature is to do with the classic 70's.

Plus there's a free glossy TV Action comic with a colour Doctor Who / Dalek story starring Jon Pertwee.
