I suppose it does matter that Doctor Who is British. The American's seem to love the British sense of humor in the show. I have a relative who watched Dr Who on BBC America. She said that it's the unique British comedic touches in the stories that she likes. Plus the eccentric nature of the Doctor. Personally, I don't think I could actually hack having an American actor take the central lead in Doctor Who. But that's just my opinion.

It really would depend on who the actor was.If it was some here today gone tomorrow heart throb from a US show then no thanks, however if it was someone who seemed suited to the role then yeah why not.

The whole Dr who should be British reminds me of when star trek the next generation came out and we had fans moaning that the captain wasn't american and was played by an Englishman which is even more stupid when you release shatner is Canadian! As long as they get an actor who's good for the role it will not matter. They can still keep the British sense of humor etc no matter what nationality the actor.

Star Trek is rather different to Doctor Who. But I fully understand what your saying.

Isn't Chibnall aiming for a much younger Doctor in the next series. It does fill me with dread. Matt Smith was fine in the role, but I certainly want an actor that isn't driven by good looks. In today's film and TV it's all about looks on the surface and not about what's underneath the mask. One actor I often hoped would take on the role was Michael Sheen. A character actor by trade, but certainly he would of delivered a rather fascinating interpretation of the Doctor.
