Doctor Who over the years: Episode quotes
The Daleks – Episode 1 – The Dead Planet
Barbara Wright: Ian, where are we?
Ian Chesterton: I don't know.
Barbara Wright: Well, why doesn't he take us back?
Ian Chesterton: I'm not sure that he can.
Barbara Wright: What, ever?
Ian Chesterton: I hate it as much as you. I'm just as afraid. But what can we do?
Barbara Wright: Well, we could at least stay near the ship.
Ian Chesterton: Hmm. The ship's no good without him. We better keep an eye on him. He seems to have a knack of getting himself into trouble.
Barbara Wright: You think there's any danger?
Ian Chesterton: Not necessarily.
Barbara Wright: But don't be too complacent. No, you're right, I suppose. I just wish...
Ian Chesterton: We'll be all right.
Barbara Wright: Yes. Well, I suppose we'd better make sure he doesn't fall down and break a leg. Don't you ever think he deserves something to happen to him?
Ian Chesterton: [laughing] Yes!
The Daleks – Episode 2 – The Survivors
The Doctor: Tell me something about the people, the Thals.
Dalek: Over five hundred years ago, there were two races on this planet. We, the Daleks, and the Thals. After the neutronic war, our Dalek forefathers retired into the city, protected by our machines.
The Doctor: And the Thals?
Dalek: Most of them perished in the war, but we know that there are survivors. They must be disgustingly mutated, but the fact that they have survived tells us they must have a drug that preserves the life force.
The Doctor: And knowing that these mutated creatures exist outside the city, you're willing to send one of us amongst them.
Dalek: As you say yourself, all your lives depend on it.
The Daleks – Episode 3 – The Escape
Dalek: [looking over Susan's letter] What is the last word here?
Susan Foreman: The last word?
Dalek: Su... san. [Susan giggles] Stop that noise!
Susan Foreman: Well, it's... it's what I'm called. It's my name. Susan.
The Daleks – Episode 4 – The Ambush
Dalek #1: Make no attempt to capture them. They are to be exterminated. You understand? Exterminated!
Dalek #2: I understand.
The Daleks – Episode 5 – The Expedition
The Doctor: I'm afraid my little trick has rather rebounded on me. What you might call tempting providence, Chesserman.
Ian Chesterton: Well, don't worry about it now, Doctor. It's happened.
The Doctor: Yes. Well, at least you're not vindictive.
Ian Chesterton: Well I will be if you don't get my name right.
The Doctor: Hmm?
Ian Chesterton: It's "Chesterton".
The Doctor: Yes. Hey? [irritated] Yes, I know that.
The Daleks – Episode 6 – The Ordeal
Dalek: [to the Doctor] You have destroyed our videoscope and one of our lifts.
The Doctor: And you in turn killed the Thal leader in your ambush. And you will be responsible for more deaths unless you help these people.
Dalek: The only interest we have in the Thals is their total extermination!
Susan Foreman: What do you mean?
Dalek: Tomorrow, the atmosphere will be bombarded by the radiation from our nuclear reactors.
Susan Foreman: Why are you doing this?
The Doctor: That's sheer murder!
Dalek: No. Extermination.
The Daleks – Episode 7 – The Rescue
Dalek: Listen to me.
The Doctor: Yes?
Dalek: Stop our power from wasting... or it will be the end of the Daleks.
The Doctor: Even if I'd wanted to, I don't know how.

Doctor Who over the years: Episode quotes
Inside The Spaceship – Episode 1 – The Edge Of Destruction
Ian Chesterton: Doctor... some very strange things are happening. I feel we're in a very dangerous position. This is no time for personal quarrels.
The Doctor: Meaning?
Ian Chesterton: I think you should go and apologize to Barbara at once.
The Doctor: I'm afraid we have no time for codes and manners. And I certainly don't underestimate the dangers, if they exist. But I must have time to think. I must think. Rash action is worse than no action at all, hmm?
Ian Chesterton: I don't see anything rash in apologizing to Barbara. [scoffs] Frankly, Doctor, I find it hard to keep pace with you.
The Doctor: You mean, to keep one jump ahead. That you will never be. You need my knowledge and ability to apply it, and then you need my experience to gain the fullest results.
Ian Chesterton: Results? For good or for evil?
The Doctor: One man's law is another man's crime. Sleep on it, Chesterton. Sleep on it.
Inside The Spaceship – Episode 2 – The Brink Of Disaster
The Doctor: We're on the brink of destruction, so all four of us must work closely together. We must find out where we are and what is happening to my ship.
Ian Chesterton: Just a moment, why did you say that? "The brink of destruction"?
The Doctor: There's a strong force at work somewhere, which is threatening my ship. It's so strong that every piece of equipment can be out of action at the same time.
Ian Chesterton: What? Total disintegration?
The Doctor: Precisely. We haven't crash-landed, otherwise I would have discovered that immediately. And I don't believe there is an evil intelligence in the ship. Just at the same token, I don't really believe that you, either of you, have been the cause of this trouble.
Ian Chesterton: Well, what is then?
The Doctor: I don't know, but we must find out.
Ian Chesterton: Yes, but how long have we got?

Reperusing The Hand Of Fear

An ending. Thorne. That outfit. Radiation that isn't that lethal . Tupperware.

Yet again in the comm they refer to Holmes' desire to "scare the little buggers to death"
Thank Cthulhu he did.

Allowing Lis and Tom to write the ending was a good decision. I prefer Jo Grants departure in The Green Death or Rose's in Doomsday but its still well done.

Sarah Jane had been in the show since late 1973. Between then and The Hand of Fear in 1976, fans at the time had invested their affections for the character, arguably the best companion of all time. I wasn't around for that, so I can only imagine what a wrench it was for Sarah leaving in The Hand of Fear when it went out. School Reunion was the perfect story to bring that particular aspect of Doctor Who to a close. I mean yeah she has return appearances and her own show, which you could argue diluted what could have been the one, true, proper goodbye in School Reunion but its good for what it is.
