New Whoniverse Spin-Off 'The War Between The Land And The Sea' announced at San Diego Comic-Con.

Russell Tovey and Gugu Mbatha-Raw lead the cast of new Doctor Who spin-off series for the BBC and Disney+, alongside Doctor Who alumni Jemma Redgrave and Alexander Devrient

Today (Friday 26th July) the BBC and Disney Branded Television jointly announce their first brand new Doctor Who spin-off titled THE WAR BETWEEN THE LAND AND THE SEA, during San Diego Comic-Con.

The series is created by Doctor Who Showrunner and Executive Producer Russell T Davies, who has written the series with Pete McTighe (A Discovery of Witches, The Pact, Doctor Who).

Leading the five-part series is Russell Tovey (Feud, American Horror Story: NYC) and Gugu Mbatha-Raw (Surface, Loki). The series will also see the return of UNIT alumni Jemma Redgrave (Doctor Who, Grantchester) who will reprise her role as Kate Lethbridge-Stewart and Alexander Devrient (Doctor Who, Ted Lasso) as Colonel Ibrahim.

When a fearsome and ancient species emerges from the ocean, dramatically revealing themselves to humanity, an international crisis is triggered. With the entire population at risk, UNIT step into action as the land and sea wage war.

Filming begins next month and will be directed by Dylan Holmes-Williams, director of two Season 1 episodes ? 73 YARDS and DOT AND BUBBLE.

Pleased McTighe has co-written the series. Might reign in some of Davies' excesses. His mini-movies for the season Blu-ray box sets are all excellent.

There's nothing to hate about that clip. It's a typical Moffat jump all over the place opening similar to stuff he's done before such as The Wedding of River Song.

It looks fun to me. Although the Silurian looks more human than ever before.

• Behind the scenes, she was the credited costumer on several stories during the later Tom Baker era of Doctor Who. She was closely associated with the costuming of Romana in her first and second televised incarnations. She was responsible for Mary Tamm's iconic and introductory all-white floor-length dress and many of Lalla Ward's eclectic outfits. She also had profound impact on the Fourth Doctor's look, creating his latter-day "plum" outfit and scarf, which was seen throughout the 18th series. She was the first designer to use the question mark motif on an item of the Doctor's clothing. Although she never finalised specific designs for anything in the Peter Davison era, her influence was directly felt until Time-Flight, thanks to her design for Tegan's air hostess uniform. Also, she did some preliminary designs on the Fifth Doctor's costume. She takes credit for putting him in cricket whites, although she is quick to point out that she was not responsible for the "red edge on his coat" or the "ridiculous pyjama-striped trousers"
