In terms of the new ones. Force awakens plays things to safe. I'd actually agree a little with Hivemind. It's a little too 'fan film' but with someone who can shoot and edit scenes with some level of talent. Last Jedi's main problem was the casino scene. A whole film based around a military engagement isn't a bad idea and distracting from that felt a little too much like a distraction. That said the film took some chances with the material for better or worse. I loved the idea that things turned out shitty for Luke. As I said in earlier posts, if your going to have a wise hermit character it's worth having them a little messed up and bitter over past failures. Lukes demise was genuinely badass to me and at least acknowledged the series kurosawa roots with traditional stances for the swordplay. Plus I still get genuinely tickled seeing the supposed 'big bad' get offed by his whiney apprentice. |

I enjoyed the Last Jedi a lot more the second time around. It has its problems that (just) stop it from being in the league of New Hope and Empire. The casino sequence was pointless for instance (it just took me out of the film, I was far more interested in watching Luke/Rey training/talking or the Resistance running from the Empire or Kylo/Snoke talking. Some of the humour was a bit weak as well. And SPOILER: SPOILER: The performances were great. The directing was great. I was worried it would just be a re-hash of Empire but it feels very much like its own thing. Nothing at all like I expected which is why I had to watch it twice to fully judge it. . SPOILER: . SPOILER: SPOILER: SPOILER: SPOILER: SPOILER: I'd rank them all as such, although the list tends to change, especially in ones in the middle. 1. Episode V: The Empire Strikes Back 2. Episode IV: A New Hope 3. Episode VIII: The Last Jedi 4. Episode III: The Revenge of the Sith 5. Episode VI: The Return of the Jedi 6. Rogue One 7. Episode VII: The Force Awakens 8. Episode I: The Phantom Menace 9. Episode II: Attack of the Clones |

Dave Filoni should have been Lucasfilm president, not SJW Kathleen Kennedy. Filoni knows his Star Wars and it would have been great to have him on the new films. The development of the Clone Wars character Ashoka Tano over the seasons was awesome. When the series first started she was a hated character but developed into one of Star Wars most beloved characters. That's great writing. |

It was a no-brainer when i noticed CEX would give me the same £7 for The Last Jedi as i paid for it in Morrisons.

I thought it would be a good moment to say that I'm currently watching Star Wars Episode 1: The Phantom Menace as I type this message. It's time to reacquaint myself with Lucas's Star Wars saga after five years. No Disney junk, just a nice stroll down memory lane. Regards, Hive |
