My wife and I watched the first 55 minute episode of Star Wars Ahsoka. I hope it gets better because at the risk of sounding like Kevin Smith side character dialogue, I thought it sucked balls. You know how Mandalorian season 1 and 2 episodes felt like mini Star Wars movies? Ahsoka felt like a very typical television show with the most pedestrian lightsaber fights you've ever seen (maybe it was a mistake to let Dave Filoni direct the pilot episode?). And no, outrunning the 'cops' on your speeder bike is not a cool moment. I should mention that I also gave up on Andor three episodes in (which is a SW show that everyone else seems to adore). It really bothered me that so many Andor actors were British, just for sake of convenience as it was shot in the UK (Alien 3 is also guilty of this). And dare I say it, Andor was boring in those first 3 episodes. Basically I'm in no hurry to watch Ahsoka episode two. Rant over. btw I actually enjoy the sequel trilogy (sorry). When watching the last one, it does help to know that the novelization explained that the returned Palpatine transmitted his conciousness over to a clone at time of death in ROTJ. Shame that wasn't explained in the actual film.

But, yeah, McDiarmid was really good in all four films. There was a sneery then brooding menace about him in the prequel films. He's one of the main draws to those films for me. The fact McDiarmid is actually in The Last Jedi makes me want to watch it against my better judgment. Is he in it a lot? |

It's just the last one that Ian McDiarmid is in (Rise of Skywalker). There is a fair amount of footage of him, towards the end of the film. He's a rather physically messed up Palpatine in the film, as if the clone wasn't quite ready when the conciousness was transferred over. I enjoy this film but I'm definitely an exception to the rule, it seems most people did not.

The Force Awakens was really good, I enjoyed it a lot. However the second one is meh, and the grand finale, Rise of Skywalker is absolutely atrocious and just not worth watching. Which kind of makes Force Awakens, despite being enjoyable, totally pointless.

So, in Ahsoka. It appears now that Lightsabers are no longer the feared weapon and and really a bit useless. So now you can get stabbed through the gut and out the other side by a lightsaber and live. No problem. Barely an inconvenience. You get up and walking the next day. The same happened in the awful Obi Wan series. Does this mean that Han Solo would have lived if he had not fallen off the gantry? Poor Qui Gon Jinn got killed that way by Darth Maul. Only in Disney Star Wars. Rewriting the rules and destroying canon as they go. |

Just rewatched Rise of Skywalker. Despite my recent defence of the film, this was only my 3rd time watching. I really enjoyed it (sorry). The SW internet 'rules' now are that it's finally fine to like the prequels but you have to hate the sequel trilogy. I can recall that after Force Awakens and Rogue One, the internet had decided that it was proof that the prequels were terrible. I never thought that way, have always liked Phantom Menace (despite Jar Jar being annoying at times) and Revenge of the Sith. Attack of the Clones I do struggle with, it's only the Jango Fett vs Obi-Wan fight on Kamino and space asteroid ship battle that I really enjoy. The sequel trilogy - I actually like it, it probably helps that I really like Adam Driver playing Kylo Ren. There is a lot of comedy in Rise of Skywalker which I'm sure is one of the reasons why so many hated it. As 90% of that comedy comes from CP3O dialogue it doesn't bother me too much. I enjoy that character being so prominently featured. It can't have been easy when Carrie Fisher died before finishing work on the film and producing an end product must have been difficult (I still wonder what Nolan's third Batman film would have been like if it could have used Heath Ledger as originally planned). In short, I enjoy the sequel trilogy, internet rules be damned - flame away! ![]()
