A Boy & His Dog (1975)
A Boy & His Dog (1975). The character actor LQ Jones,(who pops up in Peckinpah westerns and Martin Scorsese's Casino) directs this post apocalyse story based on the novella by Harlan Ellison. The landscape of deserts and veril kids must of been an influence on the look of Mad Max 2,which followed later.Don Johnson in one of his early lead roles is perfect as the rather stupid and sex starved hunter,Tim McIntire is great as the voice of blood the telepathic dog,and Tiger who plays blood also deserves a pat on the head and a bone. A BOY AND HIS DOG is a wild, kinky and darkly hilarious cinematic adventure, a cult classic for almost 30 years and an inspiration for an era of sci-fi films, including the Mad Max movies. Based on the Nebula winning novella by Harlan Ellison and directed by L. Q. Jones, it stars Don Johnson, Jason Robards and Susanne Benton.Set in the year 2024 in Post-Apocalyptic America, 18-year old Vic (Johnson) and his telepathic dog Blood (voiced by Tim McIntyre) are happy scavengers in the desolate wilderness ravaged by World War Four, where survivors must battle for food, shelter, and sexual companionship in the desert-like wasteland. Vic and Blood eke out a meager existence, foraging for food and fighting gangs of cutthroats. When they find a woman named Quilla Jones (Benton), she lures Vic into a bizarre underground city, where he is to be used against his will to impregnate dozens of young ladies |

The Thing with Two Heads (1972)
The Thing with Two Heads (1972). Looking forward to the remake, where Nick Griffin's head is transplanted onto the body of Frank Bruno, and he spends the whole movie punching himself. The Thing with Two Heads is a 1972 film, starring Rosey Grier, Ray Milland and Don Marshall directed by Lee Frost, and written by Wes Bishop. Frost and Bishop also had bit parts. Milland plays Dr. Maxwell Kirshner, a dying, wealthy racist who demands that his head be transplanted onto a healthy body. As his health rapidly deteriorates, there remains only one alternative: graft Kirshner's head onto the body of a black death row inmate, Jack Moss, played by Grier. Things will never be the same for Kirshner... Also featured are some early visual effects from Special Effects expert and Oscar Winner Rick Baker. |

I've only seen the trailer for The Thing with Two Heads and it looks fantastic. The scene with the chase on the dirt bikes has to be seen to be believed. I must pick this up.

The Golden Voyage of Sinbad (1973)
The Golden Voyage of Sinbad (1973) Another bank holiday fav and another Ray Harryhausen classic, although not as effects heavy as previous films in the series, but still some great effects. The cast is nicely filled with John Phillip Law, Caroline Munro(heaving bosom included), Tom Baker(in villain mode), Douglas Wilmer, and Martin Shaw in a pre Professionals role.Gordon Hessler directs probably mostlt remembered for Scream & Scream Again. |
