Episode 26 Star One Written by Chris Boucher And so the second season of Blakes-7 comes to a close with Star One. I love the story, after the hints of a possible alien threat from the Andromeda galaxy throughout the series, the invasion is happening. Blake finally finds the legendary Federation nerve centre and just when he wants to destroy it, realises he can't as it holds the Federation worlds together and is needed to power a massive space minefield on the rim of the Andromeda galaxy. Meanwhile Servalan uses the situation to take control of Federation Space Command and via threat and death becomes president of the Federation. Avon tells Blake that this is his final mission. When Star One is destroyed he wants the Liberator and Blake can go and stir up revolutions elsewhere, there is real bitterness between the two which makes the finale all the more surprising. The aliens are great. Horribly gooey creatures which hijack human bodies, and the slimiest creature of them all - Travis, finally meets his end at the hands of Avon, after he badly injured Blake in the process. This would be the last time we would see Blake aboard the Liberator, Jenna as well unfortunately. During the final scenes he effectively hands over control to Avon as the heroic Liberator crew decide to make a last stand and go it alone against the oncoming alien fleet. These scenes are absolutely gripping and make my spine shiver with excitement. David Maloney's direction is superb as his camera pans round the crew as they hear what Avon plans to do. "To fight off that fleet until the Federation get here?" declares Avon "Avon, this is stupid!" Vila cries "When did that ever stop us?.....Fire!!" With that Avon's finger pushes the fire button and the episode ends. |

Season 3 Titles. I really don't like these opening credits. Compared to the opening of the first two series which gave the impression of a gritty sci-fi show, these seem cheap, blocky computer graphics in comparison. |

Episode 27 Aftermath By Terry Nation After the battle with the invading fleet from Andromeda, Star One has been destroyed and the Liberator severely damaged in the conflict. Zen informs the crew they will have to abandon ship as it will need to disengage life support in order to use all functions to repair the damage with its auto repair systems. The crew all take life pods. Avon carrying ORAC, lands on a beach on the planet Saron and is found by a girl named Dayna and helped to her families underground settlement as the natives are hostile. Unfortunately for Avon he soon discovers Servalan has also crash landed on Saron. Meanwhile, on the now functioning Liberator, someone else has boarded the ship first. The first episode of series 3 is pretty impressive. Apart from a few brief scenes on board the Liberator with Vila and Cally, Avon is the only crew member we follow. He quickly forms a bond with Dayna and when her family are killed by Servalan and the barbarians it becomes clear she will end up on the Liberator. Gareth Thomas (Blake) and Sally Knyvette (Jenna) did not return for the third run and are only mentioned as having abandoned the ship before the others. The episode does drag a little on the surface of Saran as tensions and rivalries surface between all concerned. However things pick up dramatically in the final reel when Avon and Dayna realize the Federation got to the Liberator first. Doctor Who fans will notice Richard Franklin (Mike Yates of UNIT) has a brief role as a Federation guard. |
