The first ever VHS movies I ever bought were Zombie Flesheaters and Smokey And The Bandit. I was working in Dixons at the time and they had a few stray videos laying around so this was my start.
We used to rent a tv and video from Granada and there was a Redifusion rental shop just up from that. A long time ago.........

What I found incredible was that Sony were still producing blank Betamax tapes until 2015!!!... and the fact Funai were still selling 750,000 VHS machines a year. (I'm looking at my Panny VHS as I write this, )

anyone think dvd players will go the same way in 20 years or so?

Oh no doubt about it, dis! They're already on the way out with the likes of Netflix and other On Demand services. Soon I imagine all films will be mainly watched by a subscription service like that with big film fans still collecting DVDs/BRs/VHS.

Be surprised how collecting vhs films is still a big hobby amongst fans.
Ive seen some films sell for ridiculous prices. And im not talking £70/80 quid im talking with another 0, £700/800

I think films via disc is here to stay for a good while yet.

Despite subscription services being several years old now, physical media isn't dead by any stretch of the imagination.

Money brought in by physical sales varies from year to year so depending on what is released in said years can grow or shrink revenue.

Take this year. I expect it to make more than last year due to the huge success of SPECTRE for example. We'll see of course, but it took almost 20 years after the birth of dvd to kill off vhs so discs will be around for a long time to come.

I don't think distributors can afford to let the physical market disappear just yet.

Now and again odd film still gets a ltd edition vhs release, i think the film vhs did that as well.

My eldest daughter still has her VHS recorder and a record player.....who knows....look at the comeback vinyl has made!
