Curiously nobody appears to have picked The Conqueror ("Yer beautiful in yer wrath") or The Greatest Story Ever Told ("Truly this man was the son of Gaahhd!"). ![]() |

![]() The Greatest Story Ever Told also gave us the pleasures of an embalmed Claude Rains (who appeared to have died before filming but wasn't told) as Herod, Telly Savalas (!) as Pontius Pilate, and Pat Boone (who mercifully refrains from singing A Wonderful Time Up There) as the angel at the tomb. ![]() |

Hey...I am also a fan of The Duke and have over 85 films on DVDs! I already completed collecting all his films between 1939 to 1976 on any formats in my DVD/video library! I have some of his films (but not all!) before 1939 in my DVD library too! But I only ever seen just FIVE JW films! They are Rio Lobo, Big Jake, McQ, Brannigan and his final film The Shootist! ![]()

I wouldn't say I'm a big fan but I must have seen the majority of his films when I was a kid (there must have been at least one of his on a week!). I suppose my favourite one's would be... They were expendable (1945) The Quiet Man (1952) The Wings of Eagles (1957) a childhood regular watch! Rio Bravo (1959)/ El Dorado (1967) virtually the same film! apparently some suggest Rio Lobo (1970) is very similar as well but I could never see it myself... North to Alaska (1960) great fun! The Longest Day (1962) a long all-star film that really works. ![]() |
